Systematic Theology #2 The Word of God

from Lugoff Bible Fellowship

August 23, 2026 Rarely does a theological discussion manage to feel both academically rigorous and deeply personal, but this exploration of how God communicates with humanity does exactly that. Jeff takes us on a journey through systematic theology, examining the many ways God's Word reaches us. From Genesis, where spoken decrees bring light and living creatures into existence, to Jesus healing and casting out demons through His word alone, the evidence of divine authority is staggering. Prophets delivered God's message in human language, and the Bible's 66 books were established as authoritative scripture around 393 A.D. through historical church councils and Jewish tradition. Can we really afford to take Scripture for granted? Jeff makes a sobering observation: American Christians often undervalue the Bible precisely because it's so accessible, while believers elsewhere risk their lives just to hold one. Practically, Jeff recommends serious students use multiple translation types alongside commentaries, treating Scripture as the ultimate standard for testing any claimed message from God. (He also dismisses popular myths about Constantine shaping the biblical canon entirely.) When all is said and done, the Bible exists not to impose rules but to foster genuine relationship with God and with one another.
