So to me, it's now the safest lead. Hurly payout from bet365, huh? No, my right eye is switching, Dan. Bet365.

Even as the sky didn't pick this. So I don't want to sound like some sort of maniac that strong-armed Kyle into picking this. We were at Creature Feature weekend and he was like, I don't know, man, I'm kind of thinking that it'd be fun to do it. I'm like, well, then let's do it.
And you just, you did it. Go well. You were also wearing it. It would be a good one for Earth Day.
Earth Day, yes. So Earth Day was yesterday. And originally, I had a movie called Daily Animals, which is more of a 70s exploitation. I think it's William Gerdler who did three on a meat hook and prophecy, maybe he didn't do prophecy.
No, he didn't do prophecy. But he definitely did three on a meat hook and maybe grizzly. So Daily Animals was an option, but I do think that it was not going to be as fun. And then when we were talking about sort of plant-based or Earth, you know, animal attacks movies come into play there.
But this one is, this was such a better choice. And wow, Scott, like I'm so glad you brought it to the table. I'm so glad that the turnover was quick and that we got to watch it for the show for Earth Day. Whoo, this thing ruled.
Well, Kyle, I agree with you. I, so I talked about how I wish I could get more. You guys had never seen it before, right? I had never seen it.
So after I watched this, I thought, I'm not crazy. That was really good. So I looked up, I tried to find a list of all the Godzilla movies ranked. And I forget, I think it was like Vanity Fair.
Like it's like a legit publication rank. This is the fifth best Godzilla movie out of like almost 40 Godzilla movies. Yeah, there are a lot of Godzilla movies. There's a lot of Godzilla movies.
Then I messaged my friend who's like the biggest Godzilla fan I know and I just said, and I'll just repeat this because this is basically the only note I wrote down while watching the movie. I said, I just watched this movie. And it's reminding me that like late 80s, early 90s Godzilla is like peak Godzilla to me. I think that is the best Godzilla era.
And he wrote back, that's my favorite of all of the franchise. Like the one that we watched is like his number one. And I want to actually read what he said. And then I will pass it the mic over to you Kyle to give us the plot summary.
This is my good friend Andrew Bannon. He said, dude, it's easily my favorite. It's such a good villain in story. They really got weird with it.
I find the older I get, the harder some of the data ones are to watch, just too much emphasis on the creature noises and spamming the Godzilla roar for 15 straight minutes. Yeah, yeah. But he did point out that like, even if you were to remove Godzilla from this film, and I think that that's why this is such a good movie, you remove Godzilla from this film. It is still a very compelling sci-fi film.
Like it's like, oh, even without Godzilla, the idea of like this guy's daughter's soul trapped in this like plant monster that was intended to be doing good for the world. Like there is like a compelling science fiction story already there. And then you just throw Godzilla in it and get crazy fights. Like add it into the mix.
It's Scott and Kyle, both of you. This is a team, you tag team this one a little bit. Fucking phenomenal. Fucking phenomenal.
I had so much fun. It's such a blind spot for me. I think I said that when we were talking about it last time. I just don't know.
I've not watched nearly enough. Godzilla, I think the most I've watched is for a couple spots on this show and maybe the original, you know, many moons ago. This is brand new for me. And also the craziest thing I think about it.
Well, like, so I have said for a very long time that Godzilla King of Monsters is my favorite Godzilla movie. And I was like, oh, it's like a comfort film. I re-watched it after watching Godzilla by versus by Olante the first time. So I was like a month ago, whatever at this point.
And I don't think I really like it that much anymore. Because I mean, like, it's fine. It's sick to have all those monsters in it. Like, that is what always attracted me to it.
But it is so fucking heavy handed with the like, I mean, acting is quite terrible, honestly. Like, it's just funny to me because I feel like the acting of the humans is always the lowest point for me as far as a Godzilla movie is concerned. This one has so two things. One, I think that Godzilla King of Monsters is a terrible film, honestly.
If you take the humans out, it's fucking great. But if you keep the humans in, it kind of sucks balls. So all that to say, I sure do love the humans in this. Like, there is that there's still that bit of like, oh, we have to sit around a table and figure things out kind of stuff.
But at the end of the day, it's still like weird. Like, Matt said, it gets weird. And like, the way I stand beside my whole like, it's Godzilla meets Hausu. Like, it really, yeah.
Here's the other thing. And I know that you're like, you're kind of reckoning with your favorite movie being not your favorite movie anymore, which is always a weird thing to deal with. But I think it's because at the time you're watching Godzilla King of Monsters, and it's like, you know what, in this grand scheme of modern movies, this one has the most monsters. It's the most fun.
It's, it's, et cetera. Yeah. And I do think that of, until we got to Godzilla minus one, like up until that point, as far as Americanized Godzilla movies, where that was kind of the best one. It was like fun and had that energy.
But then I think you go back to specifically this time period, because like even the early ones, like I do love the early 60s, like, Mothra movies, and there is like fun in those movies. But there is something about the magic sauce that they got in 84, and we're able to ride until like the midnight. Actually, excluding the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie, kind of we're able to ride this into the mid 2000s. We're like, they're not using computer animation.
They're still using rubber suits, but the suits just look so much better and are just like so eye-catching to look at. And it's like, oh, this, it just feels big scale. Yeah. And like the, in all of the right ways, whereas like the original run feels cheap in all the right ways, these feel like, no, this is a legit movie with a budget and a good creature design, but it's not like we're at now where it's leading so hard on the computer generated monsters, that like the fun is kind of lost.
Well, let me argue one thing about like the fun being lost. Like I do appreciate, I love Godzilla fighting by Alante with practical effects. It's sick. It's so good.
It is arguably the best monster fight I've seen in the best guys you've ever seen. Yeah. When, I'm sorry, when by Alante is in her second form. But the thing is that I still truly enjoy watching CGI, well two things.
One, I truly enjoy watching CGI Godzilla beat the shit out of other creatures. Like that is fine by me. Yeah. And here's the harder thing for me to reckon with is that the monster verse, like the current monster verse Godzilla design is arguably the best Godzilla design.
Okay. I'm going to argue that it's my favorite. That's not an argument. That's an opinion.
But like, I mean, Shin Godzilla, great movie. Awesome movie. Actually, be most horrifying. I mean, it's funny because I had a fun little like two abridged conversations with Jordan from Gamemarra when we were at Creature Feature about specifically Godzilla versus Bailante and Godzilla or Shin Godzilla.
And he was like, oh, you can really see the of Angelin. You can really see that like wild, brutally violent anime and like the body horror of eventual in Shin Godzilla. And I mean, like it's cool because you get to see these different takes on an archetype. I would say like Godzilla, wow, like a very specific type of monster.
I think that being like when you think of Kaiju, you mostly think of Godzilla, right? Like I think of Godzilla as a as a as a as a as a as a recently as someone who's recently getting more heavily into the non-monstiverse stuff. I mean, I think of Kaiju, I think Godzilla, but I mean, like it's cool to see different takes on on what that creature is like because it's basically like a, you know, seeing it's like seeing a werewolf almost where it's like, what what serves the story the best, you know? And so like while I do all I'm getting at is that while I do love, this is my new favorite of all of the Godzilla movies I've seen.
And I would still have to put King of Monsters like right behind it because the movies like the acting is absolutely atrocious, but no one's watching that movie for people. It's just too fucking long. Like if I could get a super cut that's like an hour and 20 minutes Godzilla versus Godzilla King of Monsters, I feel like it would just it would kick total ass. But when you can't really have so like I think about Kaiju movies as this you can't just have ice cream.
You have to have some Brussels sprouts. And the Brussels sprouts are the people standing around or sitting around a table and like the military brass being like, how are we going to fight this unfight, unwinnable war? Because like really Godzilla is this obviously everybody knows it's an allegory for like nuclear attacks and nuclear war. And the idea of this force of nature that you're you're going to try to shoot with guns and missiles, it's not going to do anything.
And you basically have to have it decide that it wants to hurt something worse, which is what I really do truly enjoy about the Kaiju movie. So you do have to have the military brass talking. I don't need to have Millie Bobby Brown going, mom, you know, like that I don't need. So it's fine.
I know that I really got off the rails there about like quantifying my love. It all makes sense because I think what I meant what I meant by like the fun is still there, not that those movies aren't fun, but like what I mean by that is almost the same way I say like the original Star Wars trilogy is fun because everything just there's just a visual appeal to look at a practical effect doing something cool. Oh, and it's also because the shyness of goo on somebody. It's gooey-er and gooey-er as it's been.
It's the long years. Yeah, I literally watched this and I was watching Return of Godzilla 1970 something. And I had recently watched, you know, King of Monsters. And I think the monster verse stuff is so dark, like literally that the palette is dark.
And you know, you guys have seen Pacific Rim and probably the second terrible movie. And a lot of that is very dark as well. Like it's I think it's also kind of a testament to one part of it is the CGI and two it's kind of like what the sensibility is for what is scary. It's kind of dark and like they honestly couldn't do that and Godzilla vs.
Bileante because half of it's in the daytime and second of all the other it's wet. It's wet. And then I'm leaning on being able to see this fight. Like I mean they've already established this, you know, and I think when you when you change the approach, right, when you change the approach to what that could be.
And you're also drawing from other CG monsters movies that have existed that aren't Kaiju, but you're still working off of other other things you you lean into. Okay, now we get to make it dark. Now we get to like hide the monster. It's scarier when you don't see the whole monster.
Like you lean it you start to like talk yourself into a different approach to it. And yeah, I mean I think I haven't seen those movies so I can't totally speak to them. I wonder if you lose something or if you know the same way that you like them in that way Scott like or you you gain enough because you get to see some action that only gets to happen with a CG monster. Oh, there's there's some show that you never see otherwise.
You're right. Right. Right. Right.
That's interesting. I mean this is this is this staple this particular film I feel like does it covers all bases of what you would want to see. There's some like crazier moves from these monsters while also being like wow that's a full on practical like fight. I was really I was really taken by how this looked.
So I'm going to dive in a little bit into it because also to your point I mean this one does feel like it really has maybe some of the most I wonder if the most to say about you know the the nuclear issues and about what a government or a shadow government or a criminal organization could do with their hands on this type of thing. I loved the build of that. So you know Godzilla had previously annihilated Tokyo and scientists are investigating how that happened and Americans start to shoot at the Japanese military that the scientists Americans shoot at Japanese military scientists as they steal come to find out evidence from the Saradia oil site which is Saradia is a fictional Middle Eastern country. Oh boy.
And we find that they have stolen Godzilla cells and are planning on figuring out what the fuck to do with them and the scientist who is sort of leading this charge is at the Saradia and forgive me because I did not take down any names. But there's a lead scientist here who then loses his daughter right Erica is his daughter. Where did we there is his wife? I think that he loses his is it I thought that he was his wife and then his daughter is the one who is the like the psychic.
I was under the impression from the Wikipedia that it's a daughter. Well you know what at the end of the day it don't matter. Yeah he he loses a loved one at a bombing that happens at the biotech Institute at Saradia as someone is attempting to steal information and steal those cells. So the five years later that guy who had lost his loved one is studying the mental energy of plants and trying to talk to roses basically he's trying to like figure out how to talk to roses with another lab specialist a female lab specialist who's working with them.
Then we start to learn about some other operations like the American genetic corporation is trying to steal the plants for this. Of course Saradia oil is sending out a goon with an assault rifle to steal more of this. Well then Godzilla cells. Yes the Godzilla cells excuse me.
Yeah Godzilla cells and they're working on he has worked the Godzilla cells into a plant that then starts to come alive like fucking overnight like really like immediately because they these criminals come in try to steal it. They do end up stealing something that nuclear energy back or anti nuclear energy bacteria I think is what they end up getting their hands on. Some of this is made up and some of this is not so it's hard to sort of follow up but there's a major plan by the criminal masterminds at Bio major to basically hold the city hostage by threatening to release Godzilla into Tokyo into Japan. Oh into Japan and then eventually we'll reach Osaka and Tokyo and just take out the country.
But little do they know that we have bylante is now mixed with Godzilla cells has formed itself in the lake of this sort of not far off but this separate area of Japan and now has this lab sort of off the off the grid a little bit until this plant grows and then every fucking news reporter in the country has now arrived over there and they're all watching this beautiful rose well I don't know if it's beautiful this massive mutant rose rise out of the middle of this lake Ashanako lake. So there's a threat from the bio major syndicate to blow up and release Godzilla in fact it happens they do not get to the to dismantle the time whatever like taking time I was like a minute left in this flipped over truck that these two guys are trying to like stop from releasing to the bottom. There's so much in action too like that is one thing about this is that it's quite nice how much human that there is. There it you know for for a genre where you're talking about there's a lot of sitting around the table and deciphering what to do which does happen we get there you know because the military comes in to try to as Godzilla gets brought in there's a lot of that that still happens but there's a good amount of people action happening like this guy with the assault rifle this flipped over truck this countdown from two minutes that these two guys have to try to figure out how to stop from blowing up and they don't they do not figure it out so now we're fucked Godzilla is unleashed by a terrorist organization.
You know my my son I told my son that I was going to watch this movie and he was like who do you think is going to win and you know but you start to if you start to think about it a lot or you start to also wonder who's the good guy is his other question right like who is the good guy and who do you think is going to win and I didn't know and now I'm watching this I had even more I have less of an answer for him this morning when he asked me like who won and who was the good guy I was like well Godzilla's a pawn and Bailante is a mutant built from love and compassion but also grief and obsession and I don't know and they're also related to each other so I don't really know who comes out on top us humanity maybe but then like you know we don't. We're building efforts you know that's what I always find so interesting like I'm watching for the heroes yeah like when you watch like Godzilla's Smasher City I mean maybe it's me maybe there's some sort of anxiety that I that I have about it but I'm like man the rebuilding efforts are gonna be expensive which is cool I do love that at the beginning they're talking about this and I mean like and they don't talk about this as much as I would like in Godzilla movies but they definitely talk significantly at length throughout this movie. There is one really great moment so yeah so we worked we're five years after that initial attack on Tokyo and there's the Godzilla Memorial Lounge and there's this shot of like in the building is like the footprint of Godzilla that they've then turned into like a skylight window and you're like looking at these two people talking in this lounge the Godzilla Lounge I was like that's fucking awesome I was like that was probably my favorite one of my favorite shots that wasn't you know the Kaiji Monster was how they're leaning into that now Tokyo and all of Japan but Tokyo just has to live with this you know devastation that happened and will happen again like now now we just which is another allegory if not a direct comment on what's happening currently and it doesn't feel good. It's pretty wild um so Bailante is now is a is a mutant with Godzilla cells that is also telepathic and is now being talked to by this young girl who comes to the lab also like all the kids dream of Godzilla and like draw pictures of Godzilla everybody knows that like Godzilla's on the horizon like we are not it's like if everybody in your fifth grade class like a few years later drew like the Twin Towers being like blown into like it's kind of what it feels like everybody's like it's gonna happen again um and it's that's a great moment too I lost right what's really excited um oh there's a man why did I write a man in a suit that close to flames is scary at this point in time it's like retarded pajamas okay no okay I don't know what that is.
I also at this point in time it's it's 1 a.m. that I'm watching this movie so it gets a little it gets a little crazy here but eventually Godzilla gets released walking through the water the military has to come in and they have like a kind of a newer younger military approach to this they're going to have like a drone attack this Godzilla with some some lasers and that's a really interesting bit because you're right I mean nothing is stopping Godzilla but at the same time on the other side of things we're finding out that Bailante is also an immortal plant a massive immortal plant that is kind of communicating with and to Godzilla and almost like beckoning it to come to this small town away from Tokyo away from Osaka and then to then then they have a great first fight as this rose I think this rose takes a lot of damage from Godzilla which is kind of part of the gig you know it's supposed to be this thing filled with love and compassion and has the spirit of the past loved one within it and it's built from there but is now being used to try to fight this criminal organization and the Ministry of Defense is trying to prevent Godzilla with that drone they're closing airports so the the oil tycoon or whatever the soradio oil guy can't leave with the cells so now he's trying to find a different way and at that point erica spirit completely disappears from Bailante and now Bailante's fucking mean yeah it's got some weird heads that start shooting acid at Godzilla Bailante catches on fire but it's a mortal and then more telepathy happens with Godzilla we find out that if you raise his temp is it if you raise his body temperature then you're gonna have a better way of trying to defeat him with Bailante it's something to do with his like his temperature going up so they start a thunder control system to like raise this and so at this point in time this back half of the film you are going back and forth between military trying something else it not working and then and Bailante morphing into a more of a Godzilla related plant creature as opposed to this beautiful rose and they have a hell of a battle like it really is I mean I've not watched as many kaiju fights but this kind of fucking ruled like really really great yeah and I had to explain to my kiddo that Godzilla is the one that we see last and he's sort of the winner but not really because one of the last lines is also like good and bad every country is the same so now the humans still whether it is a monster that gets unleashed or general warfare between countries like they are good and bad and you have to deal with it as it comes and continue to rebuild and grow with love and compassion just like Bailante I skipped around a little bit there at the end because now we're just at that point in time we're just we're just in some monster fights and it is awesome you just have to like exist within the fights well just seeing the evolution of of Bailante every time right like it's like always every new fight you're like what's it gonna look like this time yeah yeah it still has this pulsing like red heart within it that's all the green goo that is really great she's gooey oh she's really gooey I didn't know are there a lot of fights water battles are there a lot of water battles in toho Godzilla movies are they well like Godzilla is like an aquatic make a tease in the leaves amphibious so a lot of times they'll come up from the water but this one feels different yeah he's got a long ass tail long tail Godzilla in this one that's crazy I did not like the character design is quite dead being that long but it is crazy long it's a salamander yes almost yes very much so yeah I mean it was awesome I'm excited to watch more of these movies I really want to hone in on this era specifically I decided like I and I think a lot if I don't think all of them but I think a good chunk of them are on HBO Max at this point a significant amount ironically there are big swaths that aren't that I want to see but there's a significant amount that are still there I'm sure I would not be shocked to also find out that maybe the Godzilla franchise has got like you know how like you can't put or like it was a really it's really hard to get all of the friday the thirteenth on a box set because there's like two or three different studios that own like particular chunks of that franchise I wouldn't be shocked if over 40 films that Godzilla may have traded hands a few times throughout their 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s and beyond there was I feel like I don't know if it was criterion somebody put out a really really massive oh it was the it was the show era was on criteria oh nice collection uh of like uh and I think they did like a 4k of it but you're right I mean the Toho it's just from what I'm seeing here the Toho collection or the Toho era doesn't have a set like that it looks like there's like a couple DVDs that like add it or like VHS but the show era criterion has eight disc Blu-ray edition whoo 15 god 15 films one day I'll own all of this shit one day one day drop everything the McDonald's creamy Parmesan and baking quarter pounder is back for a limited time Kyle, ask what you've brought your friends over to watch a good old-fashioned Godzilla fight-em-up movie. What is the double feature you're going to make them watch? So I actually talked about this at Creature Feature during some of these conversations about how much I like this classic sci-fi B movie and how little there is about it now. I feel like it's ripe for the pickens on a remake here.
Day of the Triffids. Nice. Yeah. I want to watch Day of the Triffids after this.
I'll just kind of back and forth whether you're going to pick that one instead of this one. Yes. That was in the running. That one felt more alien to earth as opposed to some environmental stuff going on.
But I still love Day of the Triffids. I do think I'd like to pick a show at some point. I do have a show. They just did a Day of the Triffids episode of Fright School literally the week that we're recording this.
Oh, no. And Joshua gave Kyle a big old shout out because he got his novelization version from horrifying spec when that was still in his sense. That's right. I got to go see if I can pick up a copy of the book myself.
That'd be fun. John Windham. John Windham, sci-fi author who also did Children of the Damned or Villagen Damned. He wrote whatever the source material was in the film.
Clearly ripe source material for some interesting sci-fi horror stuff. He also did one about the clock hour is Village of the Damned. I feel like there was another Windham novel that got adapted. But anyway, that's great.
I can't wait to listen to that episode. How about you, Scott? I know it's not really a Kijer movie, but I'm going to go Guy for Dark Hero just because like, just shrink down Godzilla and by Alante and you have Guy for some of those creatures in that movie. You know, I have a question for you, Scott.
Has there been a movie that we've talked about possibly doing on this podcast for a longer period of time? The Guy for Hero? Because we've been talking about that since we did the first Guy for movie in our first like hundred episodes of this podcast. The argument that I've always had is you should have got Guy for Dark Hero back then.
I'm not going to pick it. You're going to be there. When we did the first Guy for it was because of the Black Friday voting. I'm pretty sure it was an option that got voted on.
So you're saying that the audience has to vote for Guy for it? They may have to vote for Guy for a movie. I don't know. I don't know.
I don't know. We also get wilds lately over here. So we could do it. I think we could do it.
We'll be fine. Whatever. I was very afraid you were going to take my inskot because Day of the Triffits was my backup. And then I was like, oh, oh, oh.
I think we went up to the traditional Matt Kelly. Goddamnit. Goddamnit. No, I'm going in a completely different direction.
I think I'm going to go get watched with my favorite film about a living plant little shop of ours from 1950s. Perfect, perfect. Well, I mean, she really is the Audrey three if you think about it. Yeah.
Yeah. She's the next devolution in the Audrey. All right. Well, here we are, are going to be doing our thing, you can support us.
Patreon.com backslash H HMMP on the guest is basically our handle for everything check out our letterbox all of that other good jazz now Kyle What have you been watching listening to etc that you want to talk about well? I watched another green and gooey movie recently. I watched flubber 1997 and I've never seen Rob Williams flubber Yeah, I'm William's flubber. I'm not seen I had not seen it in Boy, I mean, I don't know since like a summer camp maybe you know like it's gotta be or like a substitute teacher Session I don't know.
Yeah, it's been a long time. I remembered, you know the trailer moments really more than anything I mean, they don't they don't have do a little dance and make a little flub on the soundtrack of the movie But it was very prominent in the trailer For me, so I remember like maybe the first 20 minutes and it's I mean, it's funny I think Robin Williams is actually like real Dan. He's not very Robin E in flubber. He's less Robin E He does play an absent-minded professor very well, and there's some really solid jokes But the the star of the movie to me was fucking Ted Levine What?
Yeah, did Ted Levine's in this movie as like a henchman for a guy who is he's the Dean of another school I think or no, he's he's about shooter McGavin from from play play because he's in the same way, but Christopher McDonald is in this What what yeah? Yeah, it's crazy. So okay, so Christopher McDonald is plays a Another professor at a different college who swoops in and tries to basically woo The Robin Williams fiance who he is this is now his the third time he has missed their wedding because he is so absent This their wedding. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she's okay with it Well, she's it that's this is kind of a thing is that like everybody plays it as if like their professional lives are very important and They are very busy people and yes, there is love and yes, they want to get married and like but she's you know He's missed it twice before today.
He's not gonna miss it She keeps reminding him but then we have webo which is his Robot partner who also loves Robin Williams so much that webo is also sabotaging the wedding and sabotaging his plans as well And then also like the college that he teaches that is gonna close down unless they can like raise some money and pay back some Very rich guy Ted Levine is one of like the henchmen and I mean he just he has the buffalo bill He has the Ted Levine voice so he's like and he's really fucking funny There's this whole bit of business where for some reason Robin Williams has a squirt gun and it looks like a pit Like a squirt pistol okay, it's like to to help with the flubber at some point in time like he's like cool it down with water So he has it as a squirt gun crazy stupid. It's ridiculous, but and he's caught by the henchmen and a big boss And so Ted Levine searches and pulls out the pistol He's like what's this for he tells him and then the big boss is like okay give it to him and he starts shooting him in the face He's like no give him the gun or like he's like it's like it's an ongoing bit of give it to him and like and instead of giving him the gun He's just like shooting at like just giving it to him shooting it over and over in his face And then at his hand and then just like it's it's the funniest bit of business the movie's clunky It moves too quick for its own good, but it was a really charming thing to return to and watch so flubber was what I got into man I got to do another shout out but If y'all listeners and co-hosts if y'all have four to five hours to kill on YouTube Whoa past guest Robert Bacon did a four-part video series where he watched every single Robin Williams starring feature in order of release in order to rank them from his greatest film to his worst film And I think he was pretty high on flubber. He breaks the into like different categories of like great good fine And then awful only two movies landed in awful and I'm pretty sure flubber was in the fine category like hey in offensive moves It's got moments. He uses he uses the clip of Chris McDonald's shitting out flubber multiple times over that video Charlie told me that there was that was the part that scared her the most mainly because she was worried about him throwing up Like and then you know and then when the result is that he shits out flubber really crazy Really crazy.
So yeah, that was I watch flubber. Well fucking well Scott you want to go? Yeah, so I already mentioned that I re-watched shin Godzilla I also watch for the first time Godzilla vs. King of Dora Similar I think that might have been actually right after Godzilla vs.
by a long time and It's good. I mean I enjoy it a lot and you just add it to the added to the fucking list of crazy shit that they did during the Tomorrow era, but I also wanted to mention that I got sick of trying to Trying to Coarse the patreon into making us all watch ginomonic and it was run it I've never seen it before had never seen it before and it is streaming on some service I want to say HBO Max and so I watched it thinking I just fall asleep to it for a couple of nights I was sat as the kids say I was into it. I loved every second of it. It is riveting It's really fun.
I think that 90% of my enjoyment is from a nostalgic perspective, but yeah, great fucking film loved every second of it I watched the documentary that I didn't expect to like as much as I did I want us do you for a quick second remove ourselves from the attachment of the source material that I'm about to mention But I watch and say her name. I'm gonna die. No, no, I watch the rise of the red hot chili peppers Yeah, okay, which you know what on my on my bingo card of things I didn't expect to make me cry the rise of the red hot chili peppers But the documentary is exclusively About the formation of the band and their original guitarist who unfortunately passed away right before they blew up And I got to tell you when you see 60 year old flea still crying as he's talking about how much he misses his friend from high school It's pretty hard not to get a little jump in that moment. Okay.
You definitely walk away being like oh flea is the best person in this band By like a gigantic mile like I almost feel sympathy for him as you watch it because there's so many points in this documentary where you realize that as crazy As flea is he lives a pretty sober life But had to spend the entirety of his 20s trying to keep two of his best friends from overdosing on a regular basis and like Like it's like god bless that man who just like multiple times was like I got it I want to quit this band But I feel like if I quit this band these motherfuckers are gonna die So I need to keep making music to keep them busy to not like it No, it's it's you feel bad for him throughout it, but it's like you know what? As much as I think that well first of all the Anthony key is just a fucking crazy fuck off all the way But you know I think the red actually peppers are a Band that has had good songs and has had bad songs They are uniquely themselves and it's an interesting story hearing how they became such a uniquely themselves type of bands in their high school years But yeah, I mean I would never watch it again But I was kind of blown away by how invested I was like I threw it on thinking I would watch like a half hour and then like turn it off and I was like actually might watch this to the bitter end I'm really I'm really locked in now on the story of this band where I kind of know how the story ends because you know history It was it was really cool I didn't realize that like George Clayton like produced two of their early records like it They're they're like appreciation of funk in their early weirder days is really kind of cool and unique and just seeing all this old Like they have like the footage of their first ever performance where they just like had one song jumped on stage And did this weird s jam song and then got off the stage where you like see the crowd like what the fuck is this? So it was a very it was an interesting watch fully worth the time Also worth the time Godzilla versus Bayou Lante and smashing that subscribe button to make sure that you never miss another episode of our movie night If you want a $3,000 a month payday for life, what would you feel free to do?
