It's been a quick three days then. Oh, yeah. You've been kind of packing for three days, maybe four. Packing and panicking for three full days.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, while. How are you doing?
How am I doing? I'm excited about going on tour. Okay. I know that the relief of playing a show is in my future.
Yes. I know the Glasgow. Perfect timing. Yeah.
Exactly. On the 23rd of November at Nice and Sleezy. Right there on Focke Hall Street. Sucky Hall Street.
Oh, Sucky Balls. Let's make all it. I've heard that. Sucky Ball.
Nice and Sleezy's on Sucky Ball Street. I can't wait. One of the main thoroughfares in Glasgow, just full of bars. Sounds so fun.
It can be a little rough. Oh, okay. You know, it's a bit of a wild vibe that can happen on Sucky Hall Street on Friday or Saturday. It's going to be a Sunday.
Sunday? I don't know. It'll be interesting to have so nice and Sleezy as a bar. It's a rough car.
Really cozy little bar. A rough car. They love indie rock there. Or they do.
Sure they do. I'm sure they still do. Soul and Fire was on the jukebox there. That's a real notable thing.
So people there was a group of people there that liked Sabado and maybe even me, like Lou Barlow, Solas, who knows? There were some fans there. Like fans of Sabado. I mean, Glasgow is an incredible music town.
Full of incredible music fans. And you know, they had like balance of ash in his face. Dozens of members. There's a wonderful band called the Pastels that have been around since the 80s.
They run record, these people run record stores and record labels. And there's this wonderful community there. Cool. Is this where Snow Patrol is from too?
No. York. York. In the 24th of November at the Bluebird.
Never been to York. Can't wait. No bird. I've only been to London or Matt and Chester.
Good name for a club. The Bluebird is a good name. There's a really good club in Bloomington, Indiana called the Bluebird. This classic rock club.
It's great. But getting back to Snow Patrol, the leader of Snow Patrol, he's from Gary Lightbody. He's from Northern Ireland. But he did spend time in Glasgow.
And he did actually form a band. He formed a band during one of my solo shows. He formed a band called Rain Sanction, which was. Darn.
What do you mean? He was at the show? A bunch of guys, a bunch of his friends, a bunch of his fellow music fans who liked me, I guess, because they were at my early solo show for me. At this place?
Yeah, nice and sleazy. I've been playing with a lot of people with a lot of sleazy like years ago had me come over and play like two or three shows in a row. It's so cool. That never happened.
This kind of appreciation emanating from this little community of people in Glasgow around this bar and nice and sleazy is totally unprecedented in my experience. I feel emotional about that. That seems really exciting. I feel honored.
I can't wait until I go there and see how these people have supported you for so long. I go there regularly. I probably play there solo almost more than any other place. And I've never been.
Yeah. So I feel that's a very point being that when I finish my show tomorrow or day after day. Manchester, Manchester on the 25th of November, on the 25th of November. Yes, the pink room, there's several venues within this venue.
There's three, like a big one and then a medium one and then a really tiny one. Pink, faloo, go to the pink room, faloo. Yes, please. In Manchester.
Okay, I have been to Manchester. Wow, what a nightlife. What a real vibrant city, Manchester, I think. You know, there's just a lot of energy there.
Yeah. Some of the energy ends up like, you know, with people like in the gutter with broken noses and things like that. Damn. It's got a little bit of it.
It's edgy. It's an edgy place. At least it was, you know, I mean, I'm, I can't imagine that it's not still an edgy place. That's just part of it.
Part of the magic of Manchester. Lots of lots of great clubs, this place. I played there with the falcoplosion almost exactly a year ago. I'm excited to go back.
So either I'll play the pink room. There's, I remember the falcoplosion show got moved to the smaller place in the last minute. So this may happen with my show as well. We'll see.
Okay. But man, Manchester's awesome. People are really funny there. People are really fun.
I'm Glasgow. You know what? I'm so excited to just meet everyone and see everyone. And you know, I don't know, just taking all the new vibes and the people and their accents and things I say.
And I'm just really excited. On the 26th of November, I see a I don't know what that stands for, but it sounds nice. London. The ice.
It just sounds, it sounds classy. I see a little, I don't know. Maybe the C stands for contemporary, which is always exciting. Institute of contemporary arts.
Who knows? That's probably not that. Who knows? But yeah, London, we're going to do a drive from Manchester to London.
It's kind of long. Okay. That can be kind of a fraught day driving from Manchester to London, presumably in the pouring rain, which may happen. But London is a magnificent moral, a gnarled, it's a gnarled of streets.
Okay. A lot of turns. Well, we do have our fearless leader, John Maloney, driving us. To our leader, friend, driver.
John and I have done a lot of traveling together. So I find, again, another, it's another familiar presence. And I know that I'm going to see a lot of people at these shows that are familiar to me. Yeah, I wonder, is Russell going to come to London?
I don't know. I don't know. Russell is the, he's our booking agent. He's the booking agent.
He's been my booking agent in England for decades. He's a very loyal. Amazing. Yeah.
He also booked Nirvana. I enjoyed meeting him many years ago. He became quite successful. But even though he's, he's gone on to like great heights as a promoter, he still puts in the time and when did we hang out with him?
It's me booked. Was that a solo show of yours or was that Saba? I can't remember? Tan Bridge Wills 27th of November at the Forum.

Could be great. I hope so. Liverpool is, that's where they say that the first Barlow, the Barlow, my Barlow name, they shipped off from Liverpool sometime in the... Oh, like your ancestors?
Yeah. Wow. They shipped off from Liverpool. Neat.
Because that's the big port. Is it? Okay. You know, theoretically they came from Manchester because there's a lot of Barlow's in Manchester.
Yes, sir. Oh. And yeah, so. It's exciting.
Apparently. I don't know a whole lot about my ancestry. There's really thousands of people involved when you're talking about an ancestor. I mean, there's that one guy that maybe, you know, made his way from Liverpool, but like among the thousands from that time period that I am actually related to just as much as him.
So that's what I've always found it. It seems a little too deluded to go and try to make a direct line to one of the thousands of people that you are related to that were alive in say 1750 or whatever. Anyway, moving on. I don't know.
But... So that's, yeah, playing Liverpool will be in Liverpool. Mm-hmm. Home of your favorite band.
The band. You're going to be so excited. We're going to go see the site of the the Cavern, where the Cavern Club, it's not there anymore. But that's where the Beatles play their first show.
So you're going to be so excited about that. Is that where they're from? What they're from Liverpool? Is that what they're saying?
Totally from Liverpool. I don't know if they grew up there. If they're from like London or I don't know. Oh, they grew up there.

Yeah, I kind of heard a little discussion about that last night. I thought of going in. I was like, should I go in and maybe mediate this? It was a bit of a heated discussion.
Well, it's like bring one of dad's guitars or a summer in the American girl. What does summer need an entire like? Is it case? Yeah.
Well, my parents actually got like an American girl doll like Irish outfit years ago. It says like I really don't know. It's got anyway, so she's wanting to. We're having quite a debate there last night and I thought, should I reason and break it up?
I'm like, no, probably not. And then I fell asleep. Yeah. Because I took a sleep aid.
I'm going to make the most of this. TBA still on summer. Whether or not she will be squeezed into. Or like, I don't know.
American girl dolls are large. Yeah, they're heavy. They're bulky. It's going to be one of those things like, do you want to bring summer?
She'll be like, no, no. Raw. I told her to leave room to get a doll there. Backtrack.
Because I can't get you a doll. I don't under the UK of summer, so you have space. Backtracking. Retraction.
Oh, back to what? I just got a text from my sister this morning. Informing me that you know in our last podcast where I featured the life, the commercial for the game of life. And then the conversation drifted into rich neighborhoods and our towns.
Mm hmm. Yep. Because I have one that was called Park Place. Right.
And I said that Ridgecrest was in Jackson, Michigan. It's not. It's actually the, it was a little bit more of the upscale neighborhood in Westfield, Massachusetts. So I was totally wrong.
Wrong state and everything. Wrong everything. And it's really, you and I were talking a bit about aging, which I've never had a problem aging. You know, like I've looked forward to aging.
You know, when I was a teenager, I wanted to be an old man. I really looked forward. I was like hang out in libraries. But this rich, I am richly misrepresenting facts from my chow.
I mean, that's a big one. One was in Michigan. I lived there until I was 1978. And then Massachusetts.
Why wouldn't I? You know what I just shot my mouth off. I didn't say. Okay.
Did you hear that? I thought I did. Yeah. Just wanted to put that in there.
I just wanted to put that in there. What's that from? That's one of my earliest recordings. It's called A Completely Gifted Man.
Is it about Milton Bradley? It's about a man who's very gifted. And he invents games for Milton Bradley. Well, remember I looked up afterward that Milton Bradley was a person.
Yes. It wasn't two people put together. It wasn't Milton Bradley. It was Milton Bradley.
Yeah. And I imagine as the company progressed and made great games, that also very gifted men, much like Milton Bradley, came up with great games. One of which I believe to be the game of life. I mean, I'm going to be playing when we come back from our tour.
There will be a vintage Milton Bradley game waiting for us, which I purchased for... Oh, you did bite anybody. I did. I purchased a, hopefully, a slightly musty game of life for $20.
Mm-hmm. It's a 1978 edition, I believe. Fine. Okay.
So we'll be able to play the game. But yeah, I wrote this song, Completely Gifted Man. He invents games for Milton Bradley, a completely gifted man. Because Milton Bradley was really part of our local lore.
Because the world is just as a man. Here, and that's what he says. I'm from Springfield. I'm from Westfield.
Which is west of Springfield. Westfield. Westfield, yep. And we actually, they would sort of, kids in our neighborhood, were offered $5 and some candy to go to this community, sort of haul nearby us and test prototypes for Milton Bradley games.
Wow. Yeah. Wow. So we would play games like that they were testing out a tester versions of games.
They were doing market research on us. Yes, great. Because we were local to Milton Bradley. Oh my gosh.
Has it back then in the late 80s? Well, or my late 70s early 80s. Did I, I'm sure I have told you about the brief job I had where I called people to get them to be in focus groups? It was so dark.
Oh my gosh. Like, this is... Actually, I told you this. I think I was like...
13 years later. Actually more than 13 years. I've been hearing your stories for 15 years. Yeah.
Wow. Well, anyway, and the woman who sat across from me, changed smoke the whole time and she was a huge gambler and... You mean she's working the phone? Yeah.
You guys are both working. You're in a phone. You're basically a phone back. It was.
We were literally in front of old school like... It did. It phones not the rotary but you press it and you're like, give me like a sheet of paper, you know, you know, like cross it off and you're calling like cold calling people and you have like a little script and it was horrific. I think my dad somehow found me this job.
It was like must have been in the ads, the class, I don't know and like buying your press, the same book buying your press paper. It was very strange, very depressing. It was like kind of where dreams go to die sort of situation. Everyone there was like so angry, so bitter, so unhealthy.
Yeah. And even if I wasn't smoking at the time, I would have been smoking because the woman smoked so much in front of me. She just literally was like this the whole time like, you know, like, all right, here we go. Chainsmoking.
And this was back when you would like, there was still smoke everywhere. It's like crazy, you know, like there was no smoking section of this job or smoke. No, we were just all in it together. Yeah.
Breathing Sally's there. And I'm trying to remember what our like incentive was for people. Was it like a hundred dollar coupon for pizza? I can't remember.
She asked my dad. Well, did you ever do the thing and get the what was it? Five dollars? Yeah, a couple times.
Was it fun? Yeah, it was great. Great. Something to do.
And then you gave your feedback. Sure. This is like the movie big, right? It was Tom Hanks.
It kind of makes you wonder, do they even do this anymore? Do you know the movie big? I do. I remember virtually nothing about it other than he was a child in a house body.
Yeah, because he did he made a wish to be big. It was delightful. It was delightful. I remember being delighted by it.
I remember a keyboard that someone was stepping on. Like a keyboard. Yeah, they go into FAO shorts, right? In New York and they like dance on the keyboard and he's delighting his boss from the toy company who kind of looks at him almost like a you know, like a he plays with the toys and he tells them what they think.
Yeah. He tells them what he thinks. Anyway, that was that was coming his job. Really lucrative insight and he became and he rose through the ranks.
Yeah, and he like slept with his co-worker. And he had that part. You know, it was like kind of fuck somebody when he's like a mentally a seven year old. He wasn't seven, but so it was like crazy.
It was crazy. Well, I say one thing before we leave about smoking, about being around smoking all the time. When I became when my band started to do well in the 90s and then it became like, wow, I guess I have to get health insurance, right? I need to get health insurance.
So I was not a smoker. Yeah. I did not I did not smoke cigarettes. Yeah, you've never been cigarette smoky.
Even as much as I like marijuana, I was not chain smoking it throughout the day. I just you know, you know, and had the special times like directly when I woke up. We can make. Waking bake.
But when they tested me for my health insurance, oh, no, no life insurance. That's what it was for life insurance because they you're not going to have to charge more if you're a smoker or you do if you write a motorcycle. If you do things that are risky, you do risky shit, but I didn't smoke, you know, and but when I saw I did a blood test and it came back that I was a smoker and I'm like, I don't smoke, but then I realized, but I do like clubs where people are smoking and I come home. I am constantly smelling.
I mean, secondhand smoke for sure raised my life insurance rates. Wow. Wow, isn't it crazy that they people don't do that anymore? There's not going to do that anymore.
Wow. It seemed like something that would never be stopped. You know, exactly like people are wearing seat belts and they stop smoking. Personal freedoms.
I know I just it amazes me. Yeah. I love that. I love that little.
I always remember that that people can change. Nice. Yeah, that's our affordable little hand held battery operated cassette player. We're going to start carrying in the Barlow Family General Store.
And lose going to sell some of those cassette tapes too. You said you had some to sell. I do. Thank you.
