Golden Defies Party on Canada Tariffs | US News

Congressman Jared Golden, representing Maine’s border district with Canada, surprises many by backing President Trump’s tariff stance, warning that Canada’s potential retaliation could hurt its own economy more than help. Known for defying Democratic norms, Golden argues that Canada can’t survive without American goods—and his constituents, deeply tied to cross-border trade, make this issue personal. As trade talks stall and Trump escalates threats against Canada, Golden offers a grounded, cautionary perspective from the front lines, urging Canada to think twice before hitting back.
