Goldfinch Chapters 10-19

Two friends eating and drinking their way through Goldfinch–Book 6 of the Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy! SPOILERS FOR THE SERIESRecipes for food and cocktails mentioned in this episode:Poor Man’s Stew aka Hamburger soupIngredients:1 pound ground beef2 tsp salt1 tsp black pepper1 yellow onion, diced or 2 tsp onion powder8 oz tomato sauce4 c beef broth14.5 oz diced tomatoes1 tbsp Italian seasoning1 bag (16 oz) frozen mixed vegetables1 tsp sugar (optional)Lemon juice, as needed (optional) Instructions:Add oil to a large pot or dutch oven on high heat.Add ground beef, onion, salt, and pepper, breaking it apart as you cook it until browned, about 6-8 minutes.Add in the tomato sauce, beef broth, diced tomatoes, and Italian seasoning and stir well.Bring to a boil, reduce to low heat and cook, uncovered, for 20 minutes, then stir in the frozen vegetables and cook for 15 minutes. Note: I like to add the sugar and lemon juice at the end if the soup needs it.
