If you have not listened to any of the previous episodes. Please check it out. Thank you and God bless you. For over 1,600 years, Christians worldwide have commemorated the final days of Jesus' life during Holy Week. Today marks Good Friday, a day of remembrance for the day Pilate condemned Jesus, crucified on a cross, and buried in a tomb. The Jewish court system found Jesus guilty of blasphemy and deserving of punishment (Mark 14:63-64). However, Rome had different standards for what warranted the death penalty, and only they could execute criminals (John 18:31). The chief priests dragged Jesus before Pilate, claiming he was a tax evader and insurrectionist who called himself the King of the Jews (Luke 23:1-2). Although Jesus never made this claim, he did not deny the title either. He simply added that his Kingdom was not of this world (John 18:36-37). Pilate saw through the religious leaders' lies and realized they were trying to manipulate him into doing their dirty work. To expose their hypocrisy, Pilate offered to release one of two men: either the innocent Jesus or an actual insurrectionist and threat to Rome (Mark 15:7-10). Their choice would reveal their true motives. Predictably, they chose to release the rebel. The religious leaders did not care about Rome; they only wanted Jesus dead.
