April 18, 2025  Good FridaySeries: Road to ResurrectionSermon: The Cross and the Price of RedemptionScripture: Matthew 27:27-37“Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.”‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27‬:‭27‬-‭37‬ ‭NIV‬‬INTRODUCTION: You will never fully understand the depth of salvation until you understand the depth of Jesus' crucifixion. At the Cross:Jesus fulfilled prophecy.“Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭22‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬Jesus demonstrated God's love.“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬Jesus paid the price of redemption.“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬“And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.”‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬CONCLUSION: “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬-‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬ ★ Support this podcast ★
