It’s the first day of school in the Quincy School District, and students, teachers, staff, bus drivers, and families across the 98848 are getting back into the school-year routine.Today’s Highlights:🌤️ Weather: Widespread haze and areas of smoke today, otherwise sunny with a high near 92°. AQI was 68 at 4:30 AM.🎒 First Day of School: Quincy School District students return to class today. Drivers are reminded to slow down, watch school zones and crosswalks, and expect extra buses and pedestrian traffic.🏫 School Start Times: Mountain View and Ancient Lakes begin at 8:05 AM; Pioneer at 8:10; Monument and George Elementary at 8:15; Quincy Middle School and Quincy Innovations Academy at 8:20; and Quincy High School at 8:25.⚽ Jacks Sports: Lady Jacks soccer practice begins today, volleyball wraps up tryouts, and cross country is scheduled to get underway. Middle school football, girls soccer, volleyball, and cross country are also scheduled to begin practices after school.🎭 Sleepy Hollow Auditions: Quincy High School Theater has released audition and tech packets for its fall production. Auditions are September 1 from 3:30–6 PM in the PAC.🚧 A Street NE Construction: Road and intersection closures along A Street NE will remain in place until late September due to delays involving buried utility relocation.⚽ Youth Soccer Coach Needed: Quincy Recreation still needs one coach for its U5 first-year soccer players before teams can be finalized.🏊 Quincy Aquatic Center: Lap swim runs from 7–9 AM, followed by water walking from 9–11 AM in the Lazy River.👩‍👧 Quincy Mom Walk Collective: Moms are invited to a playdate at Museum Park beginning at 10:30 AM.🧶 Quincy Senior Center: Bridge begins at 12:30 PM, Chat & Stitch at 1 PM, and Movie & Pizza Night at 6 PM.💃 Line Dancing in George: Beginner lessons run tonight from 6–7:30 PM at George Community Hall. Cost is $10 per lesson.👮 Thursday at QPD: The community is invited to celebrate the retirements of Captain Jorge Trujillo, Detective Damon Powell, and K9 Sarah, followed by the rescheduled National Night Out Block Party from 5–8 PM at the Quincy Police Department.⛳ Sanchez Open: The first annual Sanchez Open Golf Tournament is Friday, August 28 at Colockum Ridge Golf Course, raising scholarship funds for Quincy High School students pursuing technical education and skilled trades.⛪ Coming Up: Church at the Park returns during FCAD weekend on Sunday, September 13 at 10 AM at the Quincy Valley Historical Museum.
