Google Maps Calls Lake Ontario Lake America | Calgary News

Google Maps is now calling Lake Ontario “Lake America” for U.S. users, following a Trump executive order to align with U.S. geographic naming policies — a move that’s sparking international backlash, especially from Canada, where Premier Doug Ford defiantly erected a billboard declaring “Lake Ontario. Now and Always.” While Apple and Bing Maps resist the change, MapQuest cheekily lets users rename the lake with absurd tags like “Lake Are We Doing This Again?” The renaming echoes a similar 2025 Gulf of Mexico update, turning digital maps into unexpected geopolitical battlegrounds — even prompting the U.S. State Department to call the original name “deadnaming.” Listen in comfort: Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
