청자나 대장경에 비해 잘 알려져 있지 않지만 고려문화를 상징하는 또 하나의 문화재가 석관(石棺)이다. 석관은 고려 장례문화와 관련된 유물로 고려 예술의 정수라 할 수 있다. 또 석관의 양식은 거슬러 올라가보면 화장 유골을 담은 삼국시대의 골호(뼈단지)를 계승하고 있다.
