Having functioning eyesight doesn’t mean we can see any more than being blind means I’m unable to see what really matters. That’s the fundamental truth that’s underscored in this famous miracle we’ll be looking at this weekend. In the process of discovery, we will learn even more about Who Jesus is and what exactly He came to do. You don’t want to miss this message.SERIES: BELIEVEThere is always more to miracles than what meets the eye. They’re intended to remind us of Who Jesus is. This is especially true when it comes to the Gospel of John. When John tells the story of Jesus, he intentionally selects 7 miracles – what he calls “signs” – because of the message behind these supernatural events. John wants us to see Jesus as we never have before so that we might BELIEVE and by believing, we might have LIFE in His name.DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. It is easy to make judgments about people who are suffering. The Pharisees taught that the man born blind was the direct result of some personal sin. We often see this when a national tragedy occurs. People will quickly blame some sin or group for being the reason behind the tragedy. Jesus took an entirely different approach with the disciples in this episode. He first makes it clear that it was neither this man nor his parents who sinned to cause him to be born blind. Instead, as Christ-followers, we need to be asking the question, “What now? What’s next?” God can and will get glory from how we respond in the midst of personal suffering and tragedy. Can you think of ways God has redeemed situations that were truly awful? Have you ever been involved in truly challenging circumstances and seen God show up in things He led you to do or say?2. The ultimate irony in this story is how the only one who could truly see was the man who had once been blind. He could see Who Jesus actually was and once he knew it, he put his faith in Him and worshipped Him. Yet all of the other sighted people in the story were the most blind to what had actually happened and Who it was that performed such an amazing miracle. Have you ever been blind to a truth? What were you unable to see? How did God open your eyes? Have you ever helped someone else see a truth they were previously unable to see?
