This is especially true when it comes to the Gospel of John. When John tells the story of Jesus, he intentionally selects 7 miracles – what he calls “signs” – because of the message behind these supernatural events. John wants us to see Jesus as we never have before so that we might BELIEVE and by believing, we might have LIFE in His name.DISCUSSION QUESTIONS1. Have you ever been blinded by a misconception or an idea planted in your head by others? And because you accepted that erroneous idea as a truthful representation of reality, you failed to see truth even when it was staring you in the face. Because the Jewish people had a preconceived notion of who the Messiah was to be, when Jesus’ life and message didn’t square with their ideas, they rejected Him. How do we still do that today? In what contemporary ways do we distort the image of Jesus?2. This message illustrated both the struggle with what Jesus failed to do in responding immediately to the crisis and how compassionate He was in meeting both sisters where they were with exactly what they were needing. Have you ever felt like God let you down? Did you have an expectation that He would do something for you and it failed to materialize? Describe what that was like. Since that time, have you had any new learnings, understandings in retrospect?
