Gospel of Matthew - Matthew 18:1-17 - "As Little Children"

Jesus looks to little children in making a point to his disciples about greatness. Hand picked by the Lord, these men had been called to follow Him. They left their homes, their families, their occupations, their former lives and followed Jesus. Their lives were forever changed, and though they were indeed different men, we still see a bit of the old nature. Vying for position, we get a glimpse of self importance creeping in, the sin of pride. "Who will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Jesus gives them a lesson in humility by using a little child. "Except ye be converted and become as little children..." What is childlike in faith? He illustrates this lesson by calling a little child who does not hesitate to come to Jesus when He called. A child fully trusts, is completely dependent, humble and teachable. Trust the Lord. Trust His Word, His wisdom and guidance, and allow Him to lead you into maturity.
