Speaker: Kris Martens Text: Gen 1:26-28, 2:18-25, Prov 5:18-19, Rom 1:16, 20-25, I Pet 2:11-12 Date: May 8, 2011 In this first week of our series on the Gospel & sex in our culture, we'll unpack the current state of our culture's preoccupation with sex as a religion, and how the Christian church has historically responded. It is my great conviction that the church has to get this one right - if it is to have a relevant & effective Gospel response in our city. We need a robust theology of sex that is biblical, gospel -centered, God glorifying, fully-satisfying - and that doesn't turn sex into an idol or into something dirty or gross. Starting with the creation story in Genesis, we'll see how God's design was not for sexual desire to be killed, but directed towards marriage & fuly enjoyed. Sex was God's idea. We were designed to be naked without shame in the context of covenant marriage (Gen 2:24-25) We were created for love to be expressed in a beautiful God-designed rhythm - that moved from companionship & commitment to sexual intimacy. Sexual intimacy is not simply an act between 2 bodies, it is the intimate mingling of souls. We were made for so much more than our culture suggests. Let's live in the freedom & joy that Jesus calls us to - and in doing so - be Good News to our city.
