Gourds "Guajes" - Deer Dancer Rattles

from The Good "Tu'i" Medicine Podcast

On this podcast episode we're going to talk about gourds, mainly the gourds we have grown in the garden here on the reservation in Tucson. They are the deer dancer gourds or "guajes." We talked about them a little bit on episode number 1 "Planting Your Traditions." I wanted to talk about them in this episode because they are very important part of our culture and other indigenous tribes. We will document the process from sowing the seeds, growing, harvesting, and crafting the rattles for ceremonies.Right now they are starting to dry and soon will be harvested! so stay tuned friends.
