Gov. Makes Announcement More Quickly Than Expected Calif.'s New Senator To Be Appointed Today 10/2

California Governor Gavin Newsom is moving fast to appoint a replacement for the late Senator Diane Feinstein. Today he is expected to announce the appointment of Laphonza Butler. She is the president of EMILY’s List, an organization focused on electing Democratic women who support abortion rights. While the Governor said he’d appoint a caretaker who would not run for the seat, Butler’s appointment is said to come with no such strings attached. Last night, US Attorney General Merrick Garland appeared on CBS’ 60 minutes. When asked about the reasons he chose the law and why Democracy is important to him, Garland got choked up.
