Governor signs 'Mussel Free Colorado Act' into law

Motorboat and sailboat owners will be asked to bare some of the cost of protecting Colorado water from two invase species of mussel. It will provide $2.4 million for Colorado Parks and Wildlife Aquatic Nuissance Species program, and will require boaters to buy an 'ANS' stamp along with their registration. It also increases fees for bringing mussels into the state and unlawful boat launches. The stamp will $25 for in-state residents and $50 for out of state.  This is a direct response to the threat posed by the discovery mussel larvae last August in Summit County's Green Mountain Resevoir.
