Grand Canyon Floods Claim Two Lives | Calgary News

Flash floods tore through Grand Canyon National Park, claiming two lives and leaving a dozen missing before rescues pulled 82 from the wreckage. Friends John Giusti, Brent Rosenkranz, and Timothy Smith were camping at the canyon’s base when the torrent hit — Smith remains unaccounted for. The flood obliterated Bright Angel Creek’s trails and bridges, shattered the park’s main waterline (40% destroyed), and forced overnight visitor bans. While day visitors can still explore, services are limited as crews battle weather delays in recovery efforts — another reminder that nature’s fury never sleeps.
