Grateful, Holy Living

So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. — Romans 7:12 When I was a boy, the Ten Commandments were read almost every Sunday at church. The reading seemed long and dour. As I grew older, though, I learned that reading the law in worship is a fitting response of gratitude to God and a guide for spiritual growth.The Ten Commandments have more than one purpose. God’s law convicts us of our sin, and it points us to the grace and forgiveness we experience in trusting God’s Son, Jesus Christ, as our one and only Savior. When we trust in Jesus and we are no longer under the curse of sin, what happens to the law? In short, the Ten Commandments, which reveal God’s perfect will, become a guide, a standard for followers of Jesus.Do you want to know how God wants you to live your daily life in relation to him and with others? Look to the Ten Commandments, which reveal God’s holy, righteous, and good will for our everyday lives.We cannot keep God’s law perfectly in this life. Though we are forgiven in Christ, we still fail—again and again.But, trusting in God’s grace, we can ask forgiveness for our daily sins, and we can pray that by the Holy Spirit’s power we will continue to become like our Savior, Jesus Christ, who kept all of God’s commands perfectly.  Father God, thank you for your good and perfect will. Help us to strive every day to love and serve you and others. Amen.
