When my youngest son Zach was four years old, I drug him out into the backyard and we planted three sunflowers in one little area I made him push into little holes with me push the seeds in and plant them. Oh My goodness welcome to the daily grateful. I'm Michael cros and today we're going to talk about the joy of planting things that make you happy and grateful and get this little feeling in your tummy. That's just kind of neat, you know Yeah, it's it's we had such fun doing that that and I we went out in the backyard I just took three seeds with me had three seeds and we took them out there and I didn't even know that these were old seeds And we took them out and there's this one little section where the concrete ends in the backyard and I said, you know We're gonna plant these.

Well, don't you need a machine? I said, yes, your finger finger Yeah, I did I did the first one I took my finger and I went back into the dirt and then I said put the seed in that hole He takes the seeds and he puts it in the hole and then we covered up and then I said your turn dig the next hole How close I said give it about 70 inches a little bit. How about here? How about here?

How about here? Finally, okay, there's act there. Okay, like big's a little hole puts the seed in covers it up with one more seed And he goes I want to put it right next to it. I said no, no, no, no, no, no, you got to put it far enough to where they can all grow up So he goes, okay, and I'm thinking to myself These things aren't gonna grow because they're old I had no idea how old they were I just found them and they were you know They were outdated for sure, but I figured he's gonna forget that we planted them anyway So last hole stick it in there and put thing and fill it back up Then we took the hose and I have a little break around it It gives like a little rain mist and we put the rain mist over it just a little tiny bit and he said how often do we have to do that?

I said we have to do that every morning. He goes, okay, that sounds good. So I figured he'd forget about it next morning He's out there trying to figure out how to get the rain mist thing going I go out and I help him we give it a little bit of water and yeah, we skip the day here there But anyway next thing you know before I knew it before I even knew it They were popping up and one of the things that I'm so grateful for when this happens is to watch the these plants pop up It gives you so much joy and it makes you so grateful You know, it's kind of a connection and that was like all excited about it And they kept growing and again They were growing fast and they kept growing and they kept growing and then we went away for like three or four days I think we went to Disney World or as much children would call it Disney World, but we took off for like four or five days I don't know we were gone We came back when we came back these things were much taller than Zack and they were getting flowers up on the top And he was so excited and he would go out there every day and look at him We'd water him a little bit and yeah, and they just boom boom and then was raining and we didn't have to water next thing You knew he would go out there every day and then eventually they'll had seeds because those are seeds I said yeah anything about that is when the plants done We just scrape the seeds off and we have more and I said oh my goodness really I said yeah That's how this whole thing works, and he was so thrilled It's it's planting plants is calming. It's therapeutic It's it's mindful.

It's to mirror. Am I doing that? No, I'm not doing that But it makes you happy and it makes you grateful and Whatever you're planting. It's fun.

I'm an old turf grass guy. I like to grow turf grass But I also like to plant things you know what I'm gonna do in the spring I'm waiting until this spring. I've got a section in front of my house that I've got other plants going in I'm gonna go out there and I want to plant as Many sunflowers in there as I can I want an overabundance of sunflowers I want so many sunflowers that'll make your head spin. I just want massive It's temporary they're only gonna be there for a while, but while they're there.

It's gonna be cool It'll be a nice picture. It'll be fun. It's mindful. Yeah, it's it's creative and It's good, and I suggest anyone anyone do gardening It's I like digging in the dirt with my hands.

I just do always have always will until I get you know So old I can't do it anymore But I know a lot of gardeners that are in their 80s and they get out there and they do it all the time So you want some stress relief you want something to be grateful for you want something that's going to make you feel Gooby you want something that's going to make you smile a lot you want something that you can share with your children You want something that you can share with that special person that you want in your life Go plant some plants You know buy some plants with the nursery go plant them. I like it. It'll be fun Do not plant cactus my daughter has two cactus plants in my front yard You might get out there and I want them gone. You know why I want them gone because one of them is next to my hose And when I bend over to turn on the water, well, never mind.
