In this episode, we discuss the fourth of five coaching characteristics: Effective coaching is directional. We talk through the three planes where someone can excel at directional coaching, along with four common fears that keep people from seeing the path ahead of them.  The highest calling of a leader is to unleash the best in others (0:58) To be a directional coach, you both have to agree on where you are and where you’re headed (2:22)  Directional coaching happens on three planes, and you have to excel on the first to move on to the next (6:14) 1. The conversational plane: Where is this conversation going? (8:27) 2. The situational plane: Where am I going in this situation? (11:40) 3. The existential plane: Where is my life going? (13:05) When people have directional alignment on all three planes, it leads to outrageous harmony (16:18) Your ability as a coach to see the path is nice but irrelevant: the goal is for them to see the path (17:21) When people are lacking direction, err on the side of intentional curiosity (19:37) Lack of direction is almost always related to fear (22:08) There are four main fears that we can help people overcome to find direction (23:38) 1.
