Green Lantern Gets the ‘True Detective’ Treatment in DC Studios HBO Series

The upcoming HBO series Lanterns reimagines the Green Lantern mythos as a grounded prestige crime drama reminiscent of True Detective. Set to premiere in August 2026, the show follows veteran Hal Jordan and rookie John Stewart as they investigate a small-town murder that uncovers a massive intergalactic conspiracy. Creative leads Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King emphasize a character-driven narrative that explores the friction between the two leads and the complexities of the Green Lantern Corps. The visual style favors a lived-in aesthetic over traditional superhero polish, focusing on themes of institutional failure and the moral weight of wielding cosmic power. This series serves as a critical pillar of the new DC Universe, bridging terrestrial mysteries with the vast reach of outer space. This episode includes AI-generated content.
