Greenville the fattest; least fat city in the US, Asheville, NC
from The Tara Show
The 2026 WalletHub study on the fattest cities in America highlights a stark regional contrast, ranking the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin metro area as the 15th most overweight and obese city in the nation. This ranking, based on 19 key metrics including adult obesity rates and access to healthy food, places Greenville among the heaviest in the South, trailing just behind fellow South Carolina cities like Columbia at 11th. Conversely, the report identifies Asheville, North Carolina, as a regional outlier, boasting the lowest percentage of obese adults of all 100 cities surveyed. While cities like Honolulu and Seattle often trade the title of overall "least fat," Asheville's standing as a leader in weight-related health provides a sharp contrast to the obesity challenges facing its neighbor just across the state line.

00:00 Greenville, one of the fattest cities in the entire nation. Jeez. Dexter writes, okay, well who are the skinniest cities? This is actually kind of surprising, this is right up the road. Least fat city in the country, ready for this? Not what I would expect. Asheville, North Carolina, but then you think about it, my daughter and I go up there to hike all the time. I've lived in Asheville, if I lived in Asheville, I think I'd be walking around outside all the time, it's beautiful there. Number. 00:29 2. Least fat city in the country, Bridgeport, Connecticut's beautiful too. 3. San Diego, California. 00:40 Okay. After that, Tucson, Arizona, and then Miami, Florida. um four blue cities and a purple one. guess left's better than us. Not being so fat. You know what's interesting? When you look at Asheville, North Carolina, we have twice as many fat people here in Greenville, percentage-wise, like rate-wise, than Asheville, North Carolina. 01:10 That's not that far up the road. Something's gotta be going on with that. just, think that's interesting. 01:17 Text to rates here, I moved to Asheville from New England. I was shocked to see a line around the parking lot at Bojangles at 7 a.m. for fried chicken for breakfast. Well, apparently they got fast metabolisms. Text to rates here, love your show. I noticed when we moved to South Carolina nearly 20 years ago from the Northeast, there was a big emphasis on food here. There is. People eat out a lot. Restaurants are always busy. I believe when eating out, people consume more calories, just something we notice. There's something to that, because my husband's uh people are from Clover. 01:47 by way of Gastonia. And I've never seen so much eaten at a restaurant. I mean, when I grew up, we're from the North, restaurant is like the treat, we go twice a year. I mean, a busy restaurant year for my family would be like once a quarter. Man, my husband is at the restaurant every weekend. If it's time for a conversation, for some reason that has to be at the restaurant, but he is a Southern boy, I mean, like through and through. So maybe there's something to that, I don't know. Text to rights, it's cause all them fat Yankees moved here. I hate to break it to you, all of these Northern. 02:16 Blue cities are, they're thinner. It may be because their money doesn't go very far, they're broke. mean, their economy suck. Maybe that's it. They can't afford food. That's it. That's it. Texta writes, Ginta Buffet is solely to blame for Greenville's obesity. Another texta writes, Tara, too easy to zip in and out of fast food drive-throughs. Bro Jangles, I love Bo Jangles chicken. Oh my gosh. On a biscuit. oh When it's fresh. 02:46 Jeez. Texturites, fried food, sweet tea. I think sweet tea is a thing. I've had to break my family up. I don't like tea, I'm a weirdo about that. But you're from the South, you drink tea and you think of tea as water, right? Tea is just like the water you eat. Well, no, it's got a lot of sugar in it. Texturites, we love barbecue. Look at you, barbecue is one of the few things I can eat. It's like you just don't have it on a bun. It's actually pretty good for you. It's like you don't load it up with too much sauce, sweet stuff. 03:15 ah Texter writes, oh, I love so much you guys are taking a short break from the current events and everything going on in the world to share your fitness strategies and weight loss journeys. Thank you so much for being human and sharing some things like this. Definitely welcome on a Friday morning. Yes, Texter writes, more crackheads live in Asheville. This is true. This is true. 03:39 Text to rights, there's so much crap food being served in restaurants. I don't really eat restaurants anymore. When I go to Florida next week, that might be the first time I've been in a restaurant for over two years. Text to rights, terror of the South is where we socialize with families most overindulged in sweets. uh Yeah, oh, by the ...
