Greeting 22: Nova

from Queer Out Here · host Queer Out Here

Thanks to Nova for this sweeper, which they have sent in from Green-Wood Cemetery, NYC. A fascinating glimpse into an urban greenspace. I’m Nova, a non-binary urban naturalist in New York City. I’m wandering the rolling hills of the highest point in Brooklyn, Green-Wood Cemetery. Not just a burying ground, Green-Wood is a vast arboretum of diverse trees mixed with historic gravestones, obelisks, mausolea and sarcophagi, collectively making for an idyllic environment to observe lichens - my favourite pastime! - and provide a temporary escape from urban lockdown in the era of COVID-19, remaining socially distant - well, from the living, at least! And you’re listening to Queer Out Here. [Birdcalls, a distant bell, and even more distant sirens]
