Gregg Sawyer: Two-Sport Legend from Laramie

Gregg Sawyer is set to join the Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame in 2026—and for good reason. A two-sport legend from 1994–1999, he dominated basketball as an all-conference standout and shattered track records in the pentathlon and decathlon, even eyeing the Olympics before a stomach ulcer forced an early exit. Recruited for football but too small, he instead found his calling under coach Joby Wright, turning doubters into believers with grit and heart. Now coaching at Colorado State and raising his own athletes, Sawyer’s story is pure inspiration: proving people wrong, chasing greatness, and leaving a legacy that’s still soaring.
