Grief and Loss: When Empty Isn't the End                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                1)     God Welcomes Honest Grief a)    Naomi doesn't hide her pain. She doesn't fake spirituality. She pours out her heart. b)    Celebrate Recovery is one of the few places where people are allowed to stop pretending. c)    Healing begins where honesty begins. d)    Even Jesus entered grief. e)    If Jesus cried...you don't have to apologize for your tears. i)      Principle #1 - God is not afraid of your sorrow. 2)     Ruth 1:20-21 – Death of husband and sons a)    Naomi almost allowed bitterness to define her identity. "I am Mara [bitter]." b)    Many people today become known by their loss. i)      "I'm the widow." ii)     "I'm divorced." iii)    "I'm the addict." iv)    "I'm the veteran." v)     "I'm the parent who buried a child." (1)    Pain becomes identity. But God never intended your deepest wound to become your permanent name. vi)    Principle #2 - Grief should draw us toward God—not away from Him. 3)     God Redeems What Grief Cannot Restore a)    This is why Celebrate Recovery exists. i)      Tonight isn't just another meeting. ii)     It is God placing people around hurting people, because He often ministers His hope through His people. iii)    Principle #3 - God often sends hope through people. b)    God's answer to Naomi's grief came through relationships. i)      He sent Ruth to remain faithful. ii)     He sent Boaz to become a protector and redeemer. iii)    He even used the women of Bethlehem to encourage Naomi. c)    Healing rarely happens in isolation. It happens in community. d)    Principle #4 - God can write a future beyond your pain. 4)     Ruth 4:14-15 "A restorer of life." i)      Notice they call the child "a restorer of life." (1)    Naomi's circumstances had not been erased, but God had restored hope where she once saw only emptiness.
