Griffin Meltdown, Guardians Hold Wild Card | Cleveland Guardians News

Foster Griffin’s disastrous one-inning meltdown—giving up eight runs—doomed the Guardians in a 9-5 loss, but they still cling to the third wild-card spot after Toronto and Texas both dropped games. Chase DeLauter returned from injury with a two-run homer, and Steven Kwan kept heating up with a .350+ average since the All-Star break. The Orioles’ explosive third inning (eight runs on eight hits) was their most damaging of the season, turning early promise into heartbreak. Cleveland rallied briefly with a late three-run rally, but Baltimore answered with another homer. Now, the Guardians head to Minnesota hoping to regroup and hold onto their playoff hopes with just 15 games left.
