As a ten-year-old Russian immigrant to the United States in 1996, Grigori found himself enrolled in a 3rd-4th-and-5th grade, Spanish-English, dual-language program in the American Southwest. In this episode, Grigori provides his account of his experiences in that classroom, how he figured out which languages were being used in the classroom, and how he managed to create meaningful learning experiences with his new classmates. We also learn about his life in the ensuing years, up to his current life as an educator in Germany’s “non traditional” sector, as a software tech, as a soccer and tennis player in German’s competitive amateur leagues, and as an adult who does all these things and more in five languages!
