Grin & Guardian Gang |Supporting the Mental Health of EMS Providers

from The Sportcat Show's · host Glen "Sportcat" Jackson

the summerTonight we are fortunate to discuss the inspiring journey of Chris Turnbull, a dedicated emergency services professional with over 20 years of experience. From a junior firefighter to a seasoned paramedic, Chris has worked in various settings, including private ambulance services, hospitals, firehouses, and government agencies. Since 2010, he has also been an educator, sharing his expertise in Basic Life Support and developing training programs for his peers. Residing in the Delaware Beaches with his wife, two children, and three Newfoundland dogs, Chris enjoys paddleboarding in the bay during summer and attending high school football games in the fall. The year 2020 was particularly challenging for Chris, both professionally and personally. Amidst the chaos of changing policies, political unrest, and family pressures, he recognized the need for help. With the support of a spiritual counselor, Chris reconnected with his church community, enhancing his communication at home and understanding of his children's needs. Journaling became a vital outlet for processing emotions. In April 2021, Chris published *The Double-Edged Sword*, a compelling reflection on his career, urging EMS providers to support each other and recognize signs of personal struggle. As an advocate for mental health, Chris has been raising awareness about the challenges EMS professionals face, sharing his message nationwide and internationally. Join us as we explore Chris's path to resilience and his mission to promote mental health in the EMS community.
