What this episode covers
Throughout the letter, Peter goes from positive to negative and back again, giving warnings and challenges to endure. Vs 17 warns of perils in our Christian walk and we drift away. Vs 18 begins with "but" and gives an alternative of how to persue steadfastness. Growth is not something active that you do, but is the result of something you do. Some conditons are adequate to sprout, but not to grow. Growth is a response to being in the right environment. We do not command children to grow. Children do not sit around thinking about how to grow. 1 Peter 5:5-7. You cannot earn grace. It is something you do not deserve. Grace is given to the humble. I do not deserve any of God's favor. God does not just ignore the proud, but resists the proud. In the end times, men will be lovers of themselve and boastful. In the church, they are unteachable of sound doctrine. God's word is to be used to rebuke and correct. To receive correction requires humility. Humility esteems the needs of others better than yourself. Moses was the most humble man and took everyone's advice. However he did one act of pride (hitting the rock) and God resisted him and he could not enter the promise land. Your prayer should be humble, which is why we kneel to pray. Asking for what we do not deserve. James 4:1-10. If there is any time you feel uncomfortable to pray, either you are in a bad location or you are in a bad condition. Do you know Him or know ABOUT Him or know OF Him?
