Growing Pains: S7E13: Honest Abe

from Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast · host Angela Bowen

Hey Seaver Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Show Me That Smile Again: A Growing Pains Podcast. Today, I covered S7E13: Honest Abe, which aired on January 18, 1992. In this episode Luke's past and present lives collide when the Seaver's throw a party for Luke's birthday and invite a friend from his days on the street. I enjoyed this episode because we learn a little more about Luke's backstory from when he was on the streets. He fell in with a guy named Barney who looked out for other homeless individuals and made sure their basic needs were met like, shelter, food, and possibly protection. Granted Barney's sticky paws get the better of him after Mike invites him to Luke's birthday party as a surprise and Luke catches him in Maggie's jewelry box. Before Barney leaves he gives Luke a rude awakening saying once Luke turns 18 he'll be back to living on the street saying there's no way the Seaver family is going to buy him a car or send him to college, and his Luke's fancy clothes don't change who he used to be, after Luke threatens to turn in him to the cops for theft. Oh, if you love Carol's boyfriend Dwight, you get to see plenty of him in this episode as he annoys the family to do end, while Carol is away studying abroad (Tracy Gold was getting help for her eating disorder at the time). I hope you enjoyed this episode as I enjoyed covering it. Have a great week everyone!
