Growing through Service

from Sermons at the Shed · host Eythan Tibbs

Christianity at its core isn't about adding religious practices to our existing life, but about complete transformation through service and humility. Jesus exemplified this perfectly throughout his ministry, consistently putting others before himself and actively seeking their welfare. His temptations in the wilderness revealed his commitment to this path - when offered all the kingdoms of the world, he refused the shortcut and chose sacrifice instead.Jesus made his philosophy clear through both teaching and action. He declared that whoever wishes to be great must become a servant, and he lived this out dramatically at the Last Supper. Despite deserving all honor, he took the position of the lowest servant and washed his disciples' feet. This wasn't an emotional moment but an intentional demonstration of how the highest must humble themselves to serve the lowest. This call to servant leadership directly opposes our culture's emphasis on rights and self-fulfillment. Scripture calls us to give preference to one another in honor and to use our freedom as an opportunity to serve through love. Service challenges us because it forces us out of our self-centered perspective, but this is precisely how we grow spiritually. When we humble ourselves and put others first, we develop character, build empathy, and deepen our understanding of Christ's love. Growth happens not when we focus on ourselves, but when we serve others with the attitude that was in Christ Jesus.🌐 Websitehttps://theshed.church📘 Facebook / theshedatprovence 📷 Instagram / theshed.church 🎵 TikTok / theshed.church 📺 YouTube / @theshedatprovence
