Growing Up Between Two Worlds with Haitham Khraishi

Send us Fan Mail In this powerful episode of Chatting with Slava the Jordanian, host Dr. Slava (STJ) sits down with Haitham Khraishi, a Palestinian-American storyteller whose life has been shaped by navigating two cultures, two identities, and two worlds. Born in the Washington DC area and raised between Maryland and Palestine, Haitham shares the emotional and cultural realities of growing up in the Palestinian diaspora. From childhood memories during times of geopolitical conflict to the struggle of feeling “Palestinian in America and American in Palestine,” his journey reflects the deeper questions of identity, belonging, and cultural responsibility. Haitham discusses how education became a lifeline within Palestinian culture and how the pressure to succeed shaped his path toward earning a degree in mechanical engineering. Yet his story doesn’t stop there. While studying in college, he discovered a unique passion for geography, history, and world flags—an interest that eventually led him to begin creating educational content on TikTok. What started as a personal curiosity turned into a creative outlet and a way to connect global audiences to culture, history, and heritage. Today, Haitham also serves as a docent and tour guide at the Museum of the Palestinian People, where he helps share the history and culture of the Palestinian people. The museum, founded in 2019, highlights Palestinian art, heritage, and historical narratives in the United States. Throughout this episode, Haitham reflects on the weight of duty, the challenge of identity crisis in diaspora communities, and the power of storytelling through digital platforms. From exploring historic Palestinian cities to educating audiences about the flags and civilizations of the world, his work bridges history, culture, and modern storytelling. This conversation is a thoughtful look at identity, resilience, and the journey of finding purpose between cultures. Support the show Stay Connected and Join the Conversation!
