Growing Up Mixed: Never Enough? Growing up mixed has often meant feeling like you're being judged from both sides. B. Mitch shared what it was like being one of the only Black kids in a white neighborhood, and it opened the door to a conversation I've lived my whole life. One side says you're "not Black enough." The other says you're "too Black." Like I've always told my kids: "If you want to know what color you are, ask the police. They're gonna let you know." For me, that's been part of being mixed. You're constantly being tested, and sometimes it feels like you're never enough for somebody. This isn't about blaming anyone.
