Growing Up with TV in the 1970's

Welcome to the first episode of the podcast celebrating what it was like to grow up as a child in Britain in the 1970's and the part that television played in our childhood.Our host, Oliver Colling, is your guide for a trip back in time to the 1970's, a much maligned decade, but the one in which many of us grew up and have mostly happy memories. Britain as a country was not in great shape, but as our parents suffered the problems of power cuts in the Three Day Week, the decline of the UK's manufacturing economy and the indignity of a bankrupt country going cap in hand to the IMF for a bailout, we were busy playing and enjoying being children and watching the television.We remember the days of only having three TV channels to choose from, many of us watching on black and white TV sets rented from Radio Rentals. Despite the limited programming, the doubtful sitcoms and the ubiquity of orange and brown in all of our wardrobes, many of us have fond memories of watching television at that time and this series will try and rekindle those through shared memories, interviews and features.
