Hello and welcome back to your favorite film analysis podcast, the GoodTrash GenreCast. Your lovable hosts are back this week to go twelve rounds with Creed, Ryan Coogler's sophomore effort after Fruitvale Station. Dalton was very vocal about Fruitvale Station and Creed is an incredible follow up. And of course, all of this was done in celebration of Marvel's Black Panther release. In the Ring with Creed Ryan Coogler's Creed is a sequel/spin-off of the Rocky franchise. Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) is the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky's foe-turned-friend. Although Apollo died before Adonis was born, Adonis has boxing in his blood. With nobody willing to train him on the West Coast, Donnie packs up and goes to Philadelphia in hopes of seeking out Rocky (Stallone). Once there, he and Rocky form a relationship that will test the bonds of friendship and family. Oh, and there's boxing involved. On this week's episode, we kick things off with our game. We talk about Lega-sequels We Want to See. After some fun suggestions, we get down to business and try to offer some Creed analysis. We discuss race, class and formalist techniques on this week's episode. We then decide whether to shelve Creed or put it in the trash. Oh! There's the knockdown.
