豫園は四川布政使（潘允瑞）が、且つて刑部尚書であった父親（潘恩）への親孝行のために建設した庭園です。１５５９年に建設開始、18年後に完成しましたが、既に潘恩は亡くなっていました。１７６０年に上海の有力者達が再建開始。名前を西園と改称し、当時は豫園の２倍の広さであったようです・・・１９５６年に西園の約半分が庭園として改修、整備され、豫園と改称され現在に至っています。
