Guard your treasure, Guard your heart | Selby Mpofu | 30-Nov-2025

from Bridgeway Family Church Randburg · host Bridgeway Family Church

Selby shared a timely exhortation on true discipleship. From Luke 21:34, he reminded us that the cares of this life are always pressing in, and if we are not watchful, they can quietly consume our hearts. In a time when the love of many is growing cold, we were encouraged to honestly examine our spiritual condition and allow the Lord to draw us back where needed. The central scripture of the morning came from Luke 12:34, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Selby emphasised that God continually works in us to uproot anything that competes for our devotion (Jeremiah 1:10). The call was not simply to adjust our outward priorities, but to let the Lord deal with the deeper issues of the heart because discipleship flows from what we truly treasure. He also pointed us to the parable of the sower in Luke 8, highlighting the things that choke the life of God like worries, riches, and pleasures. We were encouraged to let go of whatever hinders spiritual growth, trusting that we are safe in the hands of Jesus. When we take up our cross daily, we learn to follow Him in true freedom and simplicity of heart.
