Guardians Draft Outlook & Trade Impact | Cleveland Guardians News

The Guardians are poised for a big MLB Draft weekend, armed with four picks on day one—including the coveted 19th overall—and a proven track record of turning top selections into stars. They’ve already reaped rewards with Travis Bazzana (2022’s 1 pick, now an All-Star rookie) and Jace LaViolette (2023’s 27 pick, ranked 6 prospect), while Luke Hill’s rise despite injury shows their depth. Even after trading away a competitive balance pick for Gold Glove catcher Patrick Bailey—a major-league upgrade—they still hold a strong first-round pick. Their focus on college position players has delivered impact contributors like Bazzana, DeLauter, and Williams, fueling a playoff-contending roster. With Ralphy Velazquez (last year’s first-rounder) expected to join the majors soon, the Guardians’ scouting team remains laser-focused on player character and potential, confident they’ll uncover more gems this year—no matter the position or level.
