Look at that beautiful dog! All that long, gold hair… I think it's a Golden Retriever! That dog is great! I want to say hello! But I can't. That dog is a guide dog. 那裏有一隻好漂亮的狗狗,我想是黃金獵犬,真希望摸摸牠說哈囉,但是不行,因為牠是導盲犬。 Guide dogs are working dogs. Their job is to help blind people or anyone who cannot see very well. Guide dogs keep them safe. 導盲犬有工作要做,負責保護視障人士的安全。 Most sidewalks in Taiwan are busy! There are people and steps and signs and scooters… Close your eyes. Imagine you are blind! You can get hurt on a busy sidewalk. 台灣的人行道人很多,還有階梯、招牌,跟機車。想像你是個盲人,在忙碌的人行道上會容易受傷。 A blind person can be safe with a guide dog. A guide dog will stop them from getting hurt. In Taiwan, 60,000 people are blind or cannot see very well. But there are only 42 working guide dogs in this country! Most other countries have more guide dogs. 全台灣大約有六萬名視障人士,但是只有 42 隻導盲犬,比其他的國家都少! It is not easy to get a guide dog. A dog needs training for 2 to 3 years. There are not many trainers in Taiwan. And one dog costs more than 32,000 NT$! 一隻狗狗要經過兩三年的訓練,才可以成為導盲犬,而且國內的訓練師不多,一隻導盲犬的訓練費用可能要花三萬兩千台幣! Taiwan needs lots more guide dogs. So come on!
