188. Guided Mindfulness Meditation for Anxiety and Overthinking

from The OCD Whisperer Podcast with Kristina Orlova · host Kristina Orlova

A guided meditation to help with overthinking, anxiety, and a mind that just won’t slow down. Some days your head feels on overdrive. You sit down to relax and the thoughts keep racing anyway. This meditation doesn’t ask you to stop the thoughts. You’ll rest your attention on your breath, lose it, get pulled into a thought, and come back. That’s it. That’s the skill of mindfulness, and it gets stronger every time you practice. No experience is needed to start. Feel free to sit on the floor, sit in a chair, or even lie down. Headphones can help, but they aren’t required. You can’t do this exercise wrong. Having your mind wander off and coming back isn’t the practice failing, it’s actually the practice working. I’m Kristina Orlova, a licensed marriage and family therapist. I treated anxiety and OCD, and I live with OCD myself, so I understand what a loud brain feels like. This meditation is general and may work for anyone, whether you deal with anxiety or just want to reset your day. One honest note. This is for general wellbeing, not a substitute for therapy. If breath focus ever makes you more anxious, that's a real thing that happens to some people. Open your eyes, listen to the sounds around you instead, or take a break.
