We’ve got long daylight and cool nights, with the water temperature right in the mid-60s. Recent rains nudged the lake level up a bit, and there’s just a light stain in the creeks, but clarity is still solid. There’s no tidal swing here, just a steady water flow from the dam, so you can focus on the bite instead of chasing a tide clock. The bass are wrapping up the last wave of the spawn. You’ll still find a few guarding nests in the shallows and grass, but most are sliding out deeper as we roll into classic ledge season. Morning action has been hot on topwater—buzzbaits and hollow-body frogs are drawing strikes around milfoil mats and lily pads. Goose Pond and the thick grass in North Sauty are two of my favorite stops for early blowups. As the sun climbs higher, those fish move out to the deeper weedlines and ledges. White swim jigs, Texas-rigged creature baits, and Senkos flipped along the edge are putting plenty of largemouth in the boat. Lipless crankbaits in shad or chrome patterns are producing along channel swings and drop-offs, especially down by Seibold and Waterfront. If you’re a fan of jigs, this is your time. Football jigs are catching bigger bites out on the ledges and hard bottom spots, and the window is just opening up for that pattern to get red hot in the next week or two. Don’t forget to slow-roll those jigs or pair them with a big trailer for extra thump. Crappie fishing is still strong if you target them. The bite is solid for anglers tight-lining jigs or minnows around brush piles in 8 to 12 feet of water. Most folks are filling limits of slabs, especially in the mid-lake and creek arms. For bait, bring along hollow-body frogs, white or shad-colored swim jigs, lipless crankbaits, Senkos, and your favorite football jig in green pumpkin or black and blue. For crappie, smaller soft plastics and live minnows are working best. Hot spots right now are Goose Pond, North Sauty grass mats, Seibold ledges, and the deep weedlines near Waterfront. Electronics will make all the difference on those ledges, so watch your graph and drop down when you see them grouped up.
