Guntersville Fishing Report: Prespawn Bass Bite Heats Up, Crappie Action Picks Up

Water temps are hovering in the mid-50s, and the fish are starting to move towards their shallow spawning areas. Anglers have been reporting limits of 20+ pounds, with several trophy largemouths in the 7-9 pound range being caught. The most productive pattern has been targeting grass edges and points in 5-10 feet of water. Lipless crankbaits in red or gold have been absolute killers, especially when ripped through the grass. Chatterbaits and bladed jigs in white or chartreuse have also been producing well. For those looking to finesse some bigger bites, try slow-rolling a 3/4 oz football jig with a craw trailer along deeper grass lines. Crappie fishing has also been picking up, with some nice slabs being caught around bridge pilings and deeper brush piles. Minnows and small jigs in chartreuse or white have been the ticket. As for hot spots, I'd recommend checking out the grass flats near Honeycomb Creek and the bridge area at South Sauty Creek. The mouth of Town Creek has also been producing some quality fish lately.
