hello welcome back to another episode of broken record my name is ellie i'm your host and today we are going to be talking about guts guts is the new olivia rogerico album it was released i believe two weeks ago and i'm excited to talk about it so i'll just talk about a couple of my favorite songs i'll talk about some of the music videos and it'll be fun but before we do any of that i'll go through the track list so it starts off with all american girl then bad idea right vampire lacy ballad of a homeschooled girl making the bed logical get him back love is embarrassing the grudge pretty isn't pretty and teenage dream i i love all these songs but i think my tops right now are i have a lot of tops i'll name how many do i like one two three four five six six so i like half of the album i mean no i like the whole album but my tops okay we'll talk about my six tops then so all american girl is my first top it's the first song on the album i love it so much i love the sound of the song which is like kind of weird to say because obviously if you like a song you like the sound of the song but i love the way olivia sings it i love the way dan produced it dan nigro is her producer he produced he was helping her produce her first album sour and he helped with this new album guts and i love their friendship it's really cute i love watching videos of them like creating the songs together but anyway i love this song i love the way olivia sings it because during the verses and during the bridge not during the red star during the verses and during the outro she's very like all pretty and like it's like a very falsetto not falsetto i would say but like she's singing in a higher like register and she it's so pretty and perfect and then when the chorus and the bridge hit she's singing like oh it's like a punk rock song and it's so fun and like just like headbanger and it's i love the contrast between the two and it sounds so good i love it so much i recommend listening to it if you can i think my favorite lyric from this song is probably i like the bridge i think the bridge is funny it's uh the bridge is i don't get angry when i'm pissed i'm the eternal optimist i scream inside to deal with it like ah and then she screams for herself for a long time and that's when i'm excited for that's the world tour which she also announced recently because i just know that like it'll go crazy when she sings the lyric i scream inside to deal with it like all because i went to two summers ago i went to a phoebe bridges concert and one of phoebe bridges's songs i know the end ends with her screaming like on the song she screams at the end of it and when she played that at the concert every single person in the venue screams like at the top of their lungs and it was so cool and like cathartic and just like so special and so i'm excited to experience that again if i hopefully get tickets to olivia rodrigo's guts tour because i'm excited for her to play this hopefully she plays this song i bet she will it'll be fun but yeah i love it i love this song the next song i really like is down to track number four this one is a lot slower than the first one that i was talking about all american girl this one is called lacy i love this song again it's kind of like whimsical sounding it's like i don't even she like i don't it reminds me of gracie abrams like the way olivia sings the song is very similar to the way that gracie abrams sings her songs and it's so pretty and just i love this song it's so cool i don't even know what what specifically i like about it it just i think the way olivia sings it is very satisfying to me like it just sounds right if that makes sense i don't know how to explain it but i think my favorite lyric for this one for lacy is oh i try i try i try i try to rationalize people are people but it's like you're made of angel dust and that lyric alone is really cool but i like in the song when she sings it it's like when she says but it's like you're made of angel dust she doesn't she never finishes the word dust like it's just she just says duh and then it like the way it's produced it kind of sounds like she's like being open like okay this is you're gonna get it or you're not gonna get it but like it sounds like she's being like opened up and like seeing heaven or something it feels like very angelic and like it's kind of like everything's blurring out and like i don't know i don't know how to explain it but it reminds me of like that like classic movie trope of like people are being welcomed into heaven for the first time and it's very bright and warm and light and it feels like that if that makes sense i don't know that could be so like off and i could just be totally steering you in the wrong direction but that's what i think of when i hear it and i don't know i like to believe that's what i picture and i like to believe that's correct because i don't know what else to believe if it's not the next song i want to sing is right after i don't want to sing a song the next song i want to talk about is right after lacy it's called ballad of a homeschooled girl and i love this song personally i am not was not homeschooled however i relate to this song so much because i have anxiety and social anxiety and this song is basically like all about having social anxiety and i relate to it so much it's so funny and i'm just like yeah like i get it i get all the things she's saying i love it this one's another fun fun one it's like all american girl it's very upbeat very fun and i love she like kind of like speak sings in this song where like she's not fully singing but she is and i think it's fun because it feels like she's just like ranting and it's so funny i love it so much i think my favorite lyric for this song is i think no i think my favorite lyrics for this song are searching how to start a conversation on a website i talked to this hot guy so i was his side guess he was making out with boys like the whole night everything i do is tragic every guy like is gay the morning after i panic oh god what did i say i think the lyric is so funny like it's just like that it's just like you don't know how to talk to someone you're talking to this guy and you have a crush on him and it turns out that like he's just like there's no possible way that he could be interested in you and i think that's so funny and the morning after i panic oh god what did i say literally i yes yes just yes yes that is one of the most relatable lyrics on the song for me personally but yeah the next song i want to talk about is getting back it's the eighth song on this track list i love this song it's so fun it's like it's a double meaning and i forget the way the word for like when you say a phrase and it can mean one thing but it could also mean another thing yeah i just forgot the word so we're gonna ignore that i don't know that word and act like i do but basically the song is about her talking about an ex and is like blah blah we met each other he was kind of bad for me but i also really liked when we were in a relationship like he was toxic and then she's like if someone asked me if i want to get like if i want to try and get him back i just say i want to get him back i want to make him really jealous i want to make him feel bad like she's saying i want to get him back which i want to take as oh i want to get him back i want to date him again or someone can take it as i want to get him back i want to get revenge and like i want to make sure he feels really upset about breaking up with me or me breaking up with him or whatever it was and i think it's so funny because i've seen like on not instagram i've seen on tiktok and like social media that people didn't realize the double meaning until like their like fifth or sixth time listening to the song and i thought it was so funny because i originally before the album had come out i'd seen the track list and i saw get him back and i originally thought it was going to be like kind of a sadder song not a sadder song but a slower song than what it is and i also thought it was going to be about like getting the guy back and like i'm longing for him i want to like rekindle our relationship whatever and so when i listened to it for the first time i immediately got the double about this and so i got i got the first time i listened to it and so i thought it was really weird that like people didn't get it the first time they listened to it but also like i understand how they didn't i don't know i don't know but i love this song it's so fun and i love the bridge so much i love the bridge so much and the bridge is i want to key his car i want to make him lunch i want to break his heart then be the one to stitch it up want to kiss his face with an uppercut i want to meet his mom just to tell her her son sucks i and then she repeats that but i love that i love that i love it so much because it's exactly what we were talking like she like is trying to get out with the double meaning like she's like i want to key his car bad thing i want to make him lunch good thing i want to be the one to stitch it up good good thing i want to kiss his face good thing with an uppercut bad thing i want to meet his mom good thing just tell her her son sucks bad thing and i think that's so funny and so clever and it's i love this song it's so fun to listen to yeah it just it's just like it's just like a classic teenage angst song and i love it so much it's so fun i feel like olivia's really good at making those types of songs but i don't know i don't know she's also good at making like sad songs that make me upset and cry but we don't have to talk about that right now because the next song we're gonna talk about is also really fun it's called love is embarrassing it's the ninth track on guts and i love this song originally when i first listened to this album i don't know why but i like i guess i was listening listening to the album and doing something else at the same time like i was on my phone or i was reading or whatever and so i wasn't paying attention fully and so when i listened to this album love is embarrassing kind of skipped over my head and so when i came back to listen to it and like really pay attention to the songs and the lyrics the next time i thought it was a sad song and so i didn't listen to it for a while because i wasn't trying to be sad like like no like you're just in the mood like i would be in the mood to listen to like the hype songs or like the more like fun pop songs on her album and so i would be listening to those and i would skip all the songs that were kind of sad and i would skip love is embarrassing and the one time i didn't and i listened to it i was like oh my gosh like this is not this is not sad like yeah like it's just not slow it's like got a good beat to it and i was like what was i thinking i could have learned this the lyrics to this song a lot sooner but i didn't know and i'm glad because it's fun but yeah i love this song i love the bridge and i love the outro of this song it's amazing it's so fun so the bridge is i give up i give up i give up everything i place my bets and it's not worth anything i give up i give up but i keep coming back for more and then it goes into a chorus and then it's the outro that's yeah i give up give up i give up everything i'm planning out my wedding with some guy i'm never marrying i'm giving up i'm giving up but i keep coming back for more i love those lyrics and i love the outro specifically i love the i'm planning out my wedding with some guy i'm never marrying because the way she like says it is so fun and just like it's just like yeah like of course you are why wouldn't you be like it like it seems like she says it in a way that you like don't even question it and you're just like yeah of course you're of course you're playing on your wedding like who doesn't i love it so much i think it's so funny yeah it's really really fun the next song i want to talk about is called teenage dream this song is really sad and it makes me upset but i really like it and i think it's really pretty and i don't know i just think it's i don't know i just like i like out of the sad sadder songs and sad songs and this album this one and lacy have like taken not taken a hold of me because i'm obsessed with them but like those are the ones that like stuck out to me the most and like i wanted to listen to more but i really like it i think it's interesting the first verse i really like the lyrics of it says when am i going to stop being wise beyond my years and just start being wise when am i going to stop being a pretty young thing to guys when am i going to stop being great for my age but just start being good will it stop being cool to be quietly misunderstood so i don't know i think there's like it's like the questions she brings up are valid like when do you stop being wise beyond your years and when you start being wise like when did when is that switch like is it like in your mid-20s is it when the second you turn 18 like when is it when do you start just being wise like when when when you reach that level of like people taking you for being wise because of your experience and not just like wise because you're wise beyond your years because you're young and you don't you don't know anything like you're blah blah blah and that's so valid and then the other questions that I really also think is similar to the why beyond my years one is when am I going to stop being great for my age and just start being good like I love that like I don't love it because it's a really sad question actually but like I feel like it's so valid that she's bringing it bringing it up like what what does your age have to do with like your talent or like your knowledge of things like if you're talented you're talented if you're not you're not like you can work at it and get better but like I don't know it's I don't know I like this song it's like I have mixed opinions on it but I also like support it I don't know I don't know it's confusing I don't know don't quote me on any of this like you're welcome to have your own opinion because this song is really sad and I'm still not 100% knowing of the meaning of this song like what it's about and whatever but it's interesting Teenage Dream is the closing song on this album or I should say the streaming version of this album because Olivia Rodrigo did this cool thing where she released 12 songs the ones that I mentioned at the beginning of the episode All American Girl Bad Idea Right Vampire Lacey Ballad of a Homeschool Girl Making the Bed Logical Getting Back Love is Embarrassing The Grudge Pretty Isn't Pretty and Teenage Stream and she also so she released those 12 on like streaming platforms she released those everywhere that's the album but then she also released vinyls and she released four vinyls G the G vinyl the U vinyl the T vinyl the S vinyl which blows up guts which is her album name and each vinyl has a different song added onto it so each vinyl has 13 songs instead of 12 and they're deluxe songs I guess and I'm hoping that at some point they'll at some point they'll be available to stream online but I it probably won't be anytime soon because she wants to get people to buy her vinyls which I get and I really respect but so she has four extra songs a part that are a part of the album but you can only listen to them if you have the vinyl and so the G vinyl has an extra song called Obsessed the U vinyl has an extra song called Scared of My Guitar the T vinyl has a song that is called Stranger and then the S vinyl has a song that is called Girl I've Always Been I actually haven't heard any of the deluxe songs I have the blue vinyl which is the T version so I do have a stranger as my deluxe song on the vinyl that I purchased but I haven't been able to listen to it yet but I don't know I'm excited to listen to them I think that obviously they'll be really good I'm excited I'm so excited I don't know I don't know anything about those songs but hopefully they're good and hopefully I will be able to listen to the other three online soon because I don't listen to stolen work because it really upsets me when people leak albums and when people leak songs and post online and people listen to them it really really really irks me it's one of my biggest pet peeves because people like artists have created these songs and they've chosen to not release it or they've chosen to release it in a certain way and it is really upsetting when people take that and they like basically steal it and put it online for people to listen to but the artist doesn't get any benefits the producers don't get any benefits the record doesn't get any benefits like they're like people leak music for such selfish reasons and it really upsets me because if the artist specifically like didn't have this didn't have this song on their album or whatever it may be like it just like I feel like you should just respect what the artists did and what artists like the choices they made and so I don't know it just makes me upset so I don't want to listen to the other three deluxe songs until Olivia posts it I mean this one is these these extra three deluxe are kind of trickier because she did release it but she hasn't released it online yet and so I don't know I'm still debating if I want to listen to it or not but like versus like an unreleased song like words never post never meant to be see the light of day but like some hacker or something got the audio and they posted it online that makes me really upset but we'll see but yeah thank you so much for
