30 urte betetzen dira Eusko Ikaskuntzak, Euskaltzaindiak eta Eusko Jaurlartitzak abenduaren 3a Euskararen Nazioarteko Eguna izango zela adostu zutenetik. Baina instituzio hauen hautua baino lehen, 1949an, euskararen eguna ospatu zen lehen adiz. 1948an, Eusko Ikaskuntzak euskara eta euskal kultura babestu eta sustatzeko hainbat erabaki hartu zituen eta horien artean, abenduaren 3a Euskararen eguntzat hartzea, San Frantzisko Xabierkoaren heriotzaren egun bera. Zergatik? Saio berezi honetan Frantzes Jatsu eta Azpilikuetaren (Frantzisko Xabierkoaren) bizitzan murgilduko gara, XVI. mendeko geopolitikan, Nafarroako konkistan, jesuiten sorreran, Portugalek Asia urrunean izan zuen hedapenean, eta nola ez... euskarak historian izan duen garrantzian.
