“H” is for Hootie and the Blowfish. Founded in 1986, Hootie and the Blowfish emerged as the most popular rock band on the University of South Carolina college scene in the late 1980s an early 1990s. Consisting of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Darius Rucker, lead guitarist Mark Bryan, drummer Jim Sonefeld, and bassist Dean Felber, the band suddenly grew into a national phenomenon with the release of their major label debut, Cracked Rear View, in 1994 on Atlantic records. The record won two Grammy Awards and had sold more than fifteen million copies by 2002. The band continued to release additional albums and stage concerts on tour. From 2008 to 2018 the group went into something of a hiatus. In 2019 Hootie and the Blowfish came back together and are renowned for their friendly personalities as well as their music.
