Transcript Charlie James: All right, let's go to the WORD talk line. We'll talk to Carol in Spartanburg. Carol, how are you? Carol: Oh, I'm fine. Uh, I'm relatively new at listening to you and have enjoyed listening to you, but I was a little confused a while ago when I heard you talk about Lindsey Graham's sister. Charlie James: Yes. Carol: And that you boldly, sounded like you disapprove of her before you even hear her platform. And in that she may have some changes and not uh abdicate Lindsey Graham. So I was a little surprised— Charlie James: Well, well, now wait a minute. No, my biggest issue here is how this thing was done. That's my big issue. My big issue is we heard everybody was talking about that that that Darline Graham was going to be put in there as a, I don't know, a placeholder or an interim senator, and she was picked, from what we heard, because the agreement was she was not going to run for the Senate. That would give us a clean slate, no incumbent, that would give us a clean primary. And then we find out that she is running. So to me, there's just—there's just a few things in there that just did not sit right with me about this, um, this this whole process. Carol: Well, maybe I'm the one that's confused, if you could straighten me out on what you mean by that. Who presented it? I've just tuned you in about 15 minutes ago. Charlie James: Who presented—who presented what? That that she would be a placeholder? Carol: Right. Right. Charlie James: That was the, uh, the RNC, the National GOP, and the South Carolina GOP. In fact, this even took took drew McKissick by surprise. Carol: Oh, okay. Well, you know, I need to look at it further. I guess maybe I misinterpreted you, Charlie. I apologize. Charlie James: That's okay. That's all right. I get misinterpreted every single day, Carol. Thank you very much. You have a lovely afternoon. Happens all the time. But but but I mean, that's—that's really my issue with the process. That—that's what it was. And we don't know a whole lot about this woman. I got a little—I've got a few more details for you coming up. I'm going to be giving those to you at, uh... When am I going to give those to you? Um, it'll be next hour. Yeah, right around 4:35, uh, next hour. I'm going to lay out some of this stuff about her career and what she's actually done, because that's all we can base anything on right now. Now, she is—and somebody posted today something that I—that I was like, "Yeah, yeah, you're right. You're right about that." We should vote—this is a huge—I mean, this is a a monumentally huge position. Not only here in the United States, but around the world! This is one of the most important seats on the planet that we have right now is a United States Senator. We need to make our selection here in South Carolina based on qualifications, not sympathy. We should not be looking at sympathy for the reason that we elect a United States Senator. Let's go to, uh, Dave. How you doing, Dave? Dave: Hey, how you doing, Charlie? Charlie James: Good, bud. What's up, man? Dave: Well, I just wanted to call. I'm a transplant from Indianapolis, Indiana, and I was a state rep for several years. Charlie James: Mm-hmm. Dave: And I just had two questions, or, uh, things that I'm concerned about. Number one, our legislature has not gotten a budget yet, correct? They haven't gotten to that point. Charlie James: Correct. Yes, right. Dave: What I'm worried about is earmarks. I can't believe we're being held up by earmarks. Now, I'm not saying that they're not worthy. I get it. But in Indiana, we got rid of them. Uh, if you want to have some earmarks, put it in the darn budget in the beginning. That's what you should do. Charlie James: Yeah! That's, you know what? Here's the thing though, Dave: that's what was supposed to happen! They were—they were like—the all the people of the legislature, they were like, "All right, no more earmarks.
