H2O #160: In Which We Discuss the 13th Doctor
from SciFi4Me: The H2O Podcast · host SciFi4Me
The Doctor is in. Some people are happy about it. Some people aren't. And if you only figure things out by reading the stuff on the internet, then there are a lot of people who hate each other, hate the BBC, hate DOCTOR WHO, because it's all been ruined by Chris Chibnall. Because the next Doctor is female. This week, we discuss the casting of Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor, along with the reactions from across the web. But consider that it's not the first time the idea has come up. As far back as the 1980s (before Sylvester McCoy was put into the role), there was a suggestion that at some point the Doctor should be female. Remember, this character is an alien, and the groundwork has been laid for quite some time for this to happen. Is it a good idea? Is it a bad idea? Is it gender politics, or just a natural progression of the show? What kind of stories can be told now?
