Transcript Charlie James: Frank Beard, the drummer for ZZ Top—and ironically, the only member of ZZ Top without a beard—has died at the age of 77. Beard was in hospice care when he died this afternoon at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, with family members at his side. According to publicist Bob Merlis, band co-founder and guitarist Billy Gibbons, on tour with bassist Elwood Francis, hailed Beard in a statement saying, "Today Elwood and I lost a great friend and collaborator, and the world lost one of the most naturally innovative drummers and a great true son of Texas." So, Frank Beard dying at the age of 77 from ZZ Top. All right, let's go to the phones. We're going to talk to Roger from Taylors. Roger, what's going on, my man? Roger: Is this that little radio station that's kind of been picking at Darlene's heels? Charlie James: We're the little 4,000-watt daytimer. Yeah. Roger: Why would y'all be asking such truthful and hard questions of the birthright senatorship, Miss Darlene? Charlie James: Yeah, I mean, we just, you know—I mean, these are questions that I think, I mean, before you go to the polls, you should have an answer to, right? Roger: Yes. Charlie, the—it's almost football season. Listening to y'all talk, not just you, but from the morning, up to 7 o'clock. And there's—the turnout is going to be low, so what do you think, 6, 7%? Charlie James: I'm thinking six, yeah. Roger: Y'all's reach goes down to Columbia. Charlie James: Yeah. Roger: So y'all cover half the state. You've got to get people fired up, and y'all's listen—WRD's listening audience could change this race. I mean, we can make literally—y'all's listeners, including myself, can make a difference in this. But we have to go out and vote. Let the rest of the state be 6%, we need to get up to 20, 25%. If we do that, this 30-year control that the deep state has on us, they're going to lose it. Charlie James: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I would love—gosh, I would love to see that happen. But if you, you know, Roger, if you take a look at some of these—I mean, let's just go to some of these counties here. I mean, you look at, like, let me just go over to, you know, you go over to York, Lancaster, Marlboro, Dillon counties, all of those counties there. I mean, they got a turnout of what, 11%? Let's see, up here in Spartanburg, we had—hold on, just trying to find some of this. But we had a lot better turnout than a lot of other counties throughout the state. So we got Spartanburg, just trying to pull this up here. I mean, we had 11.26. That—I mean, that ran pretty much on par. Ralph Norman pretty much stole the show there. Darlene Graham coming in second. But man, I'll tell you what, this is going to be—I think it's going to be a close race. But it is going to turn—it's going to come down to voter turnout. Roger: Yeah, and I was talking with one of my customers, and I learned a couple of years ago when Ben did this with the State Senate, that we automatically think because we're conservative or Republican that we think the same, and we don't. I mean, your stance for one person, their stance for another person, and you're in the same party. So, but if WRD can basically, you know, turn this into a tailgate and get people out to vote, we can get rid of the machine. Charlie James: Yeah, well, we are definitely trying that every chance we get, Roger. We appreciate it, especially when you look at the State House. I mean, when you look at that list of all of those people that are endorsing Darlene Graham Nardone, and then look at the list of all the people that are supporting Ralph Norman. You've got everybody. You've got the Micah Caskeys, you've got the Davy Hiatts, you've got the Newtons in there. You got all of these people that are literally responsible for every single problem that we have in South Carolina. We are—they're responsible for our problems.
