Katie Leung, the actor who played Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, was silenced by publicists when she got racial hate during the filming of the movies. She recalls googling herself at one point, visiting a Harry Potter fandom site, and finding a bunch of racist comments about her. She then tried to speak to a publicist, because she didn’t have any experience with the media, and the publicist told her to ignore it and “pretend it didn’t exist”. This stirred up attention on social media platforms, and called for those responsible for the comments to apologize to the actress.
